Giving Feedback to Students Micro-course September 21 - November 15, 2022

Description

A student-centered teacher in an online or blended classroom gives feedback—not in the sense of giving high-stakes tests and grades—but more like a great coach who watches players from the sidelines, studies them at practice, reviews the post-game footage, and then meets with them to talk about the ways that they can improve. The intent of feedback is to improve, not reward or punish, and can take many forms, from one- on-one and small-group check-ins to written notes and emails. “Radically frequent check-ins,” as one high performance organization calls them, are the “killer app” for helping people learn and grow.

Your course facilitator will be available for questions asynchronously. Participants will also have the opportunity to connect via Zoom for live forum discussions during every stage of their innovation cycle (see Format section for more info). These forums will be guided by your course facilitator.

Learning Targets: Participants will...

  • Implement one key element of student-centered online or blended learning over a 6-8 week innovation cycle around the stages of the ADDIE Model (Analyze, Design/Develop, Implement and Evaluate)
  • Add opportunities to your online class for students to get live synchronous feedback.
  • Determine targeted areas for improvement related to your feedback.
  • Create a mechanism in your online course for students to provide you with information to improve your feedback.
