Kegonsa Family Newsletter
2024 - 2025
March 10, 2025
Dear Families,
Apologies for the late send on this! This week looks to be a beautiful one—dry, warm, and perfect for getting outside. There’s a lot packed into this newsletter, so be sure to read through for important updates.
A quick note from our health room: they are in need of extra pants donations if you have any to spare. February was filled with fun field trips, and it’s hard to believe that spring break is just around the corner!
There is a Transition Resources Fair on March 12, 2024 from 5:30-7:00PM at River Bluff Middle School. In addition to Stoughton, this fair is open to all surrounding communities and is a great opportunity for students with disabilities and their families to connect with outside agencies and providers in various areas like respite, employment, leisure, independent living, communication, benefits, and health care. Tell all your friends & don't miss out on this valuable event! Questions? Reach out to Brianna Huebner at brianna.huebner@stoughton.k12.wi.us
Wishing you all a great week! 💙 Erin
Health Office in Need of Clothing Donations
We need your help to ensure that our Health Room is always ready for our students when they need it most! Sometimes, accidents happen. When our Gilly's need a quick change of clothes, and they don't have spares in their locker, they come to the health office for help. To be able to keep our kids warm and dry, we are looking for gently used or new unisex pants (no jeans) in black, navy, or gray. We are in need of all sizes: XS, SM, MED, LG, and XL for both boys and girls.
February Field Trip Fun at Kegonsa!
February was an exciting month for our Blue Gills as students ventured beyond the classroom for hands-on learning experiences!
- Kindergarten explored the beauty of Olbrich Gardens on February 12, discovering lush greenery and vibrant flowers.
- 4th Grade felt the excitement of live music at the UW Varsity Band concert on February 14.
- 2nd Grade was captivated by the magic of Cinderella at Overture on February 20.
- 3rd Grade took a journey into history at Livsreise, the Norwegian Heritage Center, on February 21.
- 1st Grade enjoyed laughter and lessons in friendship at Frog and Toad at Overture on February 25.
A huge thank you to our staff and volunteers for making these memorable experiences possible! We love seeing our students engaged, curious, and excited to learn. 💙

*SPECIAL EDITION* March Lunch w/ the Principal
Reminder: Concert season has begun in the music room! Families are welcome to attend all Kegonsa concerts, but we know sometimes it can be hard to make it. If you or a family member can’t make it, WSTO TV records all concerts for grades 1-5 for later viewing online or on TV.
1st and 2nd grade’s shared concert will be on March 13th at 8:00 a.m. in the Kegonsa Gym. We will practice a lot in class, but practice materials for the songs are also available to your child in Quaver.
3rd and 4th grade just began practice for their concert which will be April 17th at 8:00 a.m. in the Kegonsa Gym. Both grades chose some really challenging songs, some that have a large range, and others that have lots of lyrics. Have your child tell you which song they are the best at and what needs work and check out Quaver for full practice materials.
In addition to practicing for their performances, all grades are practicing concert etiquette such as remaining seated for the full performance, active listening, applauding, and more. Ask your child what good listening looks like at a concert.
Kindergarten has been working on using objects around them to create “found sound” music. Can you and your child create a cool beat together with non-traditional instruments?
5th grade has started a special project where they work in groups to create a commercial for a product they come up with. Talk about your favorite commercials with your child and ask your child what their commercial is about. See if they can sing their jingle for you.
Other Upcoming Music Events:
Kindergarten Informances - May 1st (one class at a time) 8:00, and 8:30 a.m.
3rd Grade - Syttende Mai Opening Ceremonies - May 16th at 6:00 p.m.
5th Grade - June 5th at 8:00 a.m.
Below, 5th graders practice following chord charts using Boomwhackers, Kindergarteners play long and short sound songs they wrote using rhythm sticks, 3rd graders wrap up their final recorder tests, and 2nd graders practice a folk dance for their concert.
Shining Gilly Award Winners!
What is the Shining Gilly Award?
The Shining Gilly Award recognizes students who go above and beyond to show exceptional care for others or our school. These students exemplify the qualities we strive to nurture in all of our little citizens—kindness, responsibility, and a positive impact on their community. Whether it's an individual or a group of students, those who receive this award truly reflect the values we hold dear at our school.
Congratulations to Mitchell (1st) and Teddy (4th) 🥳
