October at Hemmenway!

It’s hard to believe we are already in October! Our school year is off to a wonderful start, and there is so much to celebrate at Hemmenway Elementary.

We are excited to share that we have launched a new social media account dedicated to highlighting the amazing things happening across our campus! From classroom learning to special events and student celebrations, we look forward to giving our families an inside look at all the wonderful moments that make Hemmenway special. A very special THANK YOU to our Hemmenway families for supporting our fundraising efforts over the past few years. Because of your incredible hard work and generosity, we have been able to make our playground shade project a reality! This addition will provide our students with a more comfortable space to enjoy outdoor play, and we are so grateful for your partnership in making it possible.

We are also looking forward to seeing many of you at our Multicultural Night & Fashion Show on October 6th! We hope you will join us as we celebrate the many cultures, traditions, and unique experiences that make our Hemmenway community so special. We are excited for an evening filled with fun, family, and celebration!

Finally, October 5–8 is College & Career Week! Our Tigers will have the opportunity to dream big, learn about future possibilities, and show their school spirit through our fun dress-up days. We can’t wait to see our students participating and showing us that the future is bright!

Thank you, as always, for being such an important part of our Hemmenway family. Together, we are making this an amazing year for our Tigers!

We have had recent changes to the dates for field trips. Here are the new dates and venues:

• November 4th - 1st grade - Zoo
• November 11th - Kindergarten - Dewberry Farm
• November 19th - Pre-K - Blessington Farm

If you are planning to chaperone, be sure you have attended a Parent Orientation this school year. If you need to attend, the next Parent Orientation will be October 6th at 5pm (before Multicultural Night).

• No one should park on school grounds (in parking lots) or stop on West Little York with flashers on to get students from the walker door. You should be walking from the neighborhood.
• The police have communicated with the campus. We CANNOT block both lanes on West Little York.
• ALL dismissal changes MUST be made before 3:00 p.m. daily. A note should be sent to hemmenway@cfisd.net with a signature and picture of the parent/guardian's driver's license or government-issued ID.

Beginning in November, any fines for overdue library books will be rolled over to SchoolCash. If your student finds a library book at home, in the car, or elsewhere, please have them return it to school as soon as possible.

Thank you for helping us ensure our library books make their way back to the shelves and remain available for all of our Tigers to enjoy!

We want to celebrate our students who attend school every day!

PK - 1st grade students who attend school every day earn PERFECT ATTENDANCE and participate in a class celebration.

2nd - 5th grade students who attend school every day earn PERFECT ATTENDANCE and participate in the campus Synergy Rally celebration.

PK - 5th grade students who are at school ON TIME (8:45am) for the FULL DAY (no early checkouts, except for doctor's appointments --Note from the doctor required. - [Not a parent written excuse note.]) will be entered into a raffle. There will be one winner in PK-1st and one winner in 2nd - 5th.

We have truly enjoyed celebrating our students and the wonderful Family Connection activities they have been completing at home! Seeing our Tigers share your family's learning adventures beyond the classroom with the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has been a joy.

Keep those Family Connection activities coming!

We have reached our Hemmenway Sock Sale deadline. If you placed an order for Hemmenway socks, we are awaiting their arrival.

Celebrate your child’s birthday with a special posting on our School’s Marquee! For just $20, your child will receive a Fun “Happy Birthday shoutout!” The graphic on the Marquee will show for 8 seconds with the student’s first name and last initial as part of the other rotating graphics. It will post the day of their Birthday and remain in rotation for 48 hours. All funds raised go directly to our school!

Go to School Cash to purchase your student’s birthday shoutout by the Wednesday prior to their birthday at 12 noon. The SchoolCash purchase needs to be PRIOR to your child’s Birthday not the day of. We will be able to schedule birthday postings that occur over breaks and over summer when purchased in advance. This will need to be submitted the Wednesday prior to the break or prior to the last day of school. For example, by May 27, 2026, all summer birthday marquee postings should be purchased in SchoolCash. Any entries after Wednesdays at 12:00pm are not guaranteed for timely display. There will be NO REFUNDS for late submission. Go to the school website https://hemmenway.cfisd.net/ > Quick Links > SchoolCash Online the week before their birthday,(by Wednesday at 12 noon), and we’ll ensure it’s up from 6am the day of their Birthday and remains for 48 hours. Dear Parents & Guardians,

A new Texas law (House Bill 1481) requires school districts to prohibit student use of all personal communication devices during the school day. Therefore, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is updating its personal communication device policy.

The use of all personal communication devices is prohibited during the school day. Devices must be turned off and stored in the student’s personal bag or backpack at all times during the school day.

CFISD has created a Personal Communication Devices Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to address some of the implications of this new policy.

You can register to visit your child for lunch on Tuesdays or Fridays. See below to sign-up to enjoy lunch with your student. There are 14 spots per grade level per lunch visitation day. You can sit on the stage with your child. You will be able to register up to 2 visitors per student for no more than 2 lunch visits per month. This ensures more parents have this opportunity with their students.

Here's what to do:

1. Look for the date you will visit.
2. Click to choose your student's grade level.
3. Enter either 1 or 2 for the number of spots.
4. Type in the Notes:
   • Enter your FIRST & LAST NAME
   • The last 4 digits of your driver’s license number
   • Birthdate
5. Repeat step 4 if you have another adult with you to visit.

If there are more than 2 individuals signed up for one student, all sign-ups after the first two will be deleted.
