Dr. Green Elem Family Newsletter
October 13, 2024
Principal's Corner
October 14 - October 31 2024
Dear Dr. Green Parent and Guardians,
We hope you and your children enjoyed the Fall intersession and are ready to hit running these upcoming 9-weeks period.
Again, congratulations to our new Extended Learning Daycare Site Manager Mrs. Grace Gonzalez. She will be overseeing the daycare at Dr. Green which operates from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Welcome Mrs. Gonzalez!
Students will return to school on October 14th. Upon returning we are planning many school activities to include Coffee with the Principal, Literacy Night, PBIS student celebrations, Fall Festival and many activities during Red Ribbon week. Please entice your children to come to school daily and be part of the many planned activities. Please see the school calendar below for the specific days students may wear their costumes. For the safety of our students no face painting or costume loose accessories will be allowed while attending school. Ex. toy guns, swords, knives, hammers, wands etc.
School Targets- As previously mentioned in the last newsletter, we are working on two main academic goals this year, increase math and science skills. Based on this, we are planning to begin two important afterschool activities. Afterschool tutoring in reading and/or math, and afterschool clubs. These two will be provided by our teachers. More information will come your way with permission slips this week.
Attendance- Goal: Higher than 96%. In the past 9 weeks, our attendance has been 95%. Please if and as possible, make medical appointments during off school days, as well as special trips and family events. We appreciate your support to reach our 96% goal.
Best time to drop off your child to school is between 7:45 to 8:00. During the times of 8:00 to 8:15 students have breakfast and some work on math drills. If you bring your students late, you need to stop at the main office to get a tardy slip for the students to enter their classroom. Remember, if they are late, they are missing breakfast and skills warm ups.
Intersession-Intersession was very productive. Thank you to those teachers who worked those 3 days. Our students had fun and stayed engaged. Thank you parents for bringing your children attend Fall intersession.
Let's come back energized and truly motivated to begin the 2nd 9-week period; which runs from October 14th to December 20th. Every lesson counts, every minute at school counts, every skill learned counts.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to me. You can stop me if you see me around the campus or you can email me at gpineda@episd.org. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you and your family.
I would like to close with this quote as our pledge to you:
"Teaching children is an accomplishment;
Getting children excited about learning is an achievement".
By Robert John Meehan
That is what we at Dr. Green believe and strive to accomplish.
Respectfully,
Ms. Guadalupe Pineda

Last week, we prepared for the EPISD’s Mock Voting in October by learning about the Presidential Election and the Electoral College. Students have been learning about how votes are counted through popular votes and electoral votes.
Events:
Dr. Green will be hosting Literacy Night October 16, 2024, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm.
Dr. Green was chosen as one of the sites for the Live Stream for our Mock Election taking place October 28th and 29th. Students are learning about the electoral process, our current candidates, and will be participating by casting their own votes.
