🗓️ Important: 8th Grade High School Transition Information

Attention Eighth Grade Parents: The transition to high school is approaching. Please review the provided information regarding High School Transition and Magnet School Options, paying close attention to application deadlines and Open House details.

Over the past few months, 8th graders have been learning about high school transition in their MAPS, AVID, and Innovative Thinkers 3 classes, covering:

• Magnet schools

• High school vocabulary

• Credits

• High School Endorsements and Programs of Study

Counseling Timeline

• Folks' Counselors will meet with 8th graders in guidance lessons to discuss initial high school course options.

• Counselors will review each endorsement and Program of Study to help students select one that aligns with their future goals.

• On January 29, 2026, high school counselors will meet individually with students to finalize their Endorsement/Program of Study choices and complete their high school planning guide.

Rest assured: Your Folks Counselors, teachers, and High School Counselors will work together to support students throughout this entire process.

Our incoming 9th graders will follow the math sequence of Algebra 1/Geometry/Algebra 2/Advanced Math. They will move to 2349 Adv Geometry Gr 9 if they are currently enrolled in Algebra 1.

Sotomayor counselors will handle all data entry for course requests. An email will go out the last week of April to all rising Sotomayor freshmen concerning their high school course requests for next year. Students will need to complete a Google Form from their high school campus if they need to make any changes to their course selections for the 2026-2027 school year. All requests for changes will be submitted on this Google form.

We are scheduling Magnet Schools visits with our 8th Graders during their lunch (12:50 pm) or before school (7:45am). These Magnet Schools will have a faculty member available to share information and answer any questions your students may have.
