Book Fair

The annual Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Hilltop Elementary School, November 17th-21st! Keep an eye out for an email with more details and information on when your child's class will be visiting the Book Fair

Dogs at drop-off and pick up

The only area in which leashed dogs are permitted on school grounds is in the back on the far grass. This allows ample space for our students who are scared of dogs to stay on the back patio without interacting with dogs. NO DOGS are permitted in the front during drop-off and pick-up.If you prefer to bring your dog to pick-up or drop-off, please change your default plan and pick up your child in the back of the building.

Attendance

A reminder regarding student attendance: Per Mendham Borough Board of Education regulation 5200, "A day in session shall consist of not less than four hours, exclusive of recess and lunch periods." A student who arrives late or leaves early and does not meet the four hour minimum will be marked absent. Students must be present for a full day (at least 4 hours of instruction)

Late to school or absent

Please email or call Nurse Kaitlyn to inform the school if your child will be absent or late to school. Any child that arrives after 8:35 must be signed in by their parent/guardian

Pick Up Patrol

Please note that any changes regarding your child’s dismissal plan MUST be entered in Pick-Up Patrol. After 1:00 p.m. any changes must be called into the main office. Staff will send your child to the designated area as specified in the daily dismissal report

Head Lice

We would like to be proactive with stopping the spread of head lice this school year. Please be diligent in checking your child's scalp at home, reporting to the school any instances of active lice, and treating your child's scalp if they have lice. Communication between home and school is essential.

Some helpful tips are

  • Girls should wear their hair in a ponytail or braids. Hairspray also can create barrier that make it more difficult for lice to settle in your child's scalp
  • Encourage children to be mindful of head-to-head contact with others, especially during play or other activities
  • Your child's stuffed animals and bedding should be washed and dried in high temperature settings

Head Lice: What Parents Need to Know

The following information from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) will help you check for, treat, and prevent the spread of head lice.

Mendham-Chester-Bernardsville Patriots Girls Wrestling Clinic – Grades K–8

We’re excited to announce a FREE Girls Wrestling Clinic this November for grades K–8!

Clinic Dates: November 11, 13, 18 & 20
Mendham-Chester Patriots Wrestling

This is a great opportunity for our young ladies to experience one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Girls wrestling has exploded at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels — and now is the perfect time to give it a try!

In addition to learning some moves on the mat, wrestling helps build:

  • Strength

  • Endurance

  • Agility

  • Confidence

We can’t say enough about how much wrestling also benefits kids in their other sports.

The clinic is free of charge, and we’re bringing in accomplished female wrestlers to help run it. After the clinic, if your daughter would like to join the Mendham-Chester Patriots Wrestling Club, we’d be thrilled to welcome her!
