Future Ready PA Index Explained Future Ready PA Index Explained

What is the Future Ready PA Index?

Beginning in the Fall of 2018, the state of Pennsylvania will use a public dashboard called Future Ready PA Index for transparency and accountability purposes. The state will continue to calculate SPP scores for schools to be used for the evaluation of educators, however, the calculations will not serve as the state's measure of school performance. PDE created the Future Ready PA Index to meet the requirements of ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act), which was signed into law in 2015. The Index is a more holistic school evaluation tool that will highlight how schools are performing and how they are making progress on multiple indicators. See the key components below.

How will Future Ready PA Index be reported?

ESSA requires states to establish long-term goals for certain indicators. Pennsylvania has aligned their federal accountability goals to the year 2030, which reflect annual interim targets. Data collected will be presented in a holistic school evaluation tool called the Dashboard. The dashboard will highlight how schools are performing and making progress on the indicators listed above. Information will be displayed through a system of colors and symbols.

*The color BLUE will indicate that a 2030 goal is met or exceeded OR the academic growth standard has been exceeded OR the performance standard has been exceeded

*The color GREEN will indicate that a statewide interim goal has been met OR the standard for demonstrating growth has been met OR the performance standard has been met

*The color RED will indicate that a statewide interim goal has not been met OR the standard for demonstrating growth has not been met OR the performance standard has not been met

Current and previous performance comparisons will be displayed with an arrow or a dot.

*An upward arrow signals an increase in performance from the previous year

*A circle indicates that the same performance was maintained from the previous year

*A downward arrow signals a decrease in performance from the previous year
