The LMS Parent PostNovember 2026

A Note from the Principal

Dear LMS Families,

November is here, and it’s hard to believe we are already approaching Thanksgiving! The first few months of school have been busy, and it has been wonderful to see our students settling into their routines, building friendships, participating in activities, and growing both academically and personally.

As we move further into the school year, we continue to emphasize the importance of attendance, being on time, staying engaged in learning, and treating others with kindness and respect. Middle school is a time of growth, and we appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these habits at home.

With Thanksgiving approaching, I also want to take a moment to share how thankful I am for our LMS community. I appreciate our hardworking staff, our students who bring energy and personality to the building each day, and our families who support the work we do.

This month's Parent Post includes important dates, school updates, student activities, and more. I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful Thanksgiving break with family and friends!

Go Abes! β€οΈπŸ–€

πŸ’‘ Parent Corner πŸ’‘ Parent Corner

Middle school is a time of tremendous growthβ€”not just academically, but physically, socially, and emotionally. Each month, Parent Corner will share a quick, research-based tip to help families support their middle schooler at home.

🍎 Parent Corner: Fueling Growing Brains

Middle schoolers are growing quickly, and what they eat helps fuel their bodies and their brains. Healthy eating doesn’t require a perfect diet or eliminating favorite foods. Instead, focus on regularly offering foods that provide protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and plenty of water.

A few easy ideas: Pair a carbohydrate with proteinβ€”an apple with peanut butter, crackers with cheese, yogurt with fruit, or a sandwich and fruit. Encourage breakfast whenever possible, especially on school days. Keep water readily available and make nutritious options easy to grab. Most importantly, aim for balance rather than labeling foods as β€œgood” or β€œbad.”

A well-fueled student is better prepared to concentrate, learn, participate, and make it through a busy school day.

🌟 Staff Member of the Month 🌟 Staff Member of the Month

Congratulations to our art teacher, John Lonsway! With 25 years in education and about 13 years at LMS, John helps students discover a world bigger than they imagined. He especially enjoys the enthusiasm middle school students bring to the classroom.

John was nominated for being a supportive teammate and mentor. Whether helping in the cafeteria during a power outage, supporting hallway transitions, or taking extra time to connect with students, he steps in where he is needed. His care for students and willingness to support coworkers make a difference at Lincoln.

Outside of school, John enjoys robotics, coding, and game designβ€”and his coworkers may be surprised to learn he also has skills in home construction! He enjoys coffee, just about any Irish pub, and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. If he could travel anywhere, he would visit the Middle East.

Thank you, John, for your creativity, teamwork, and commitment to our students!

Celebrating Our ABEs of the Month! Celebrating Our ABEs of the Month!

I'm a little late sharing our September ABEs of the Month, so this month we're celebrating two groups of outstanding students!

Each of these students was nominated by a staff member for demonstrating the character, leadership, and positive attitudes that make Lincoln Middle School a great place to learn.

Congratulations to all six of our ABEs of the Month! We are proud of you and appreciate the positive example you set for your classmates. Keep up the great work!

Student Spectator Expectations

We love seeing our students support their classmates and LMS teams!

To maintain a safe, welcoming environment at our after-school athletic events, the following expectations apply to all LMS students attending as spectators:

  • Students must be on the current ABE’s List.
  • Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or responsible adult for the duration of the event.
  • Students must remain with their adult and follow all school and event expectations.
  • Students may not be dropped off or attend an event without adult supervision.

Athletic event staff are responsible for admissions, concessions, scorekeeping, event operations, and overall event safety. Staff are not available to provide individual supervision for unaccompanied students after the regular school day.

After-school events are optional extracurricular activities, and parents/guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children while attending.

Students who do not meet these expectations will be asked to leave the event.
