MIDTERM SCHEDULE
Students have access to their Naviance 4-Year Plans. Now is the time to make sure that their plan for next school year is as up to date as possible, especially forot the 2026-2027 school year. Counselors will begin meeting with students in January to discuss course selection.
Every Wednesday during Advisory, your student will have the opportunity to watch a video from the Counseling Department that focuses on a specific topic. Some videos will discuss credit and course options, and others will pertain to monthly awareness events. If your student is absent or is unable to watch during the advisory period, the video can be viewed on our TWHS Video Archive website, posted on the TWHS Website and here:
Additionally, in the TWHS Video Archives, our "Catch It All in the Fall" video webpage is now live! "Catch It All in the Fall" is an event that allows parents to successfully navigate high school requirements with their students. This year, "Catch It All in the Fall" will be held virtually. You will be able to select instructional videos about various topics that pertain to you. This event will be posted on the TWHS Website. Go to Student & Family Resources then School Counseling, then TWHS Video Archives.
Students were invited to attend an informational meeting about Dual Credit for 2026-2027. Current students who have a qualifying SAT, ACT, or TSIA2 score in the appropriate subject area do not need to re-qualify. All other interested students need to make sure they sign up for the SAT, ACT, or TSIA2. Any student who did not sign up to take the TSIA2 test in November will have the opportunity to test in March, or they can sign up for the Dec 6th SAT or Dec 13th or Feb 4th ACT test. In order to take a Dual Credit course in the 2026-2027 school year, students must have applied to Lone Star and have qualifying scores in hand by our April 2, 2026 deadline.
CISD provides a wealth of information in our Junior/Senior Handbook. This information is updated each year. Please visit:
We know there are many options for tutors in our community. However, we strongly encourage your student to build a relationship with their teacher and seek their guidance when they need assistance or clarification. Our teachers are readily available before or after school for tutoring. In many cases, students also utilize peer tutoring through many of our service organizations. In addition, evening tutorials are available at the Senior Campus. Our staff is always here to help answer questions and address concerns. We also provide a list of tutors, some current or former teachers, on our website. You can also find it here:
Our TWHS Highlander Academic Expo will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Students heading to 9-12th grades will be able to explore electives, athletics, and a wide variety of core classes at the event held at The Woodlands High School Senior Campus on Research Forest Drive.
If you and your student have additional questions after the Academic Expo, there is an Optional Parent and Student Help Night on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. This will be held at the 9th Grade Campus on Branch Crossing Drive.

THE WOODLANDS ART TRUST
The students have voted!
Once again, thank you to all the Texas artists who submitted work for consideration this year. Our student committee narrowed the initial submissions to 13 artists/artworks. These 13 nominated artworks were then displayed at the school prior to Thanksgiving and the students voted the week of November 10. We are excited to announce that we will be adding the following artists’ work to our collection as a result of the student voting:
Longhorn by Mohammad Ali Bhatti
Fair-Ever Young by Erik Faught
Late Afternoon, Riva Row Boat House by Tom LaRock
Mi Alebrije, Karma by Claudia Rodriguez Diaz
The Storyteller by Laura Spector
Visit our website to see the winning entries (and the entire collection of now 76 artworks by 62 established Texas Artists): www.twhsat.org The new artworks are being framed and will be installed at the school in January.
The artworks are purchased through funds set aside by Student Council from the Homecoming Dance, however, the framing, lighting and conservation of these pieces need funding. Consider helping with that funding and show your support for The Woodlands High School Art Trust by joining our "One Hundred Friends of Art." Our goal is to have 100 arts supporters make an annual donation to support our cause. Donations are tax deductible and start as low as $10!! Visit our website to make a contribution: www.twhsat.org
The Woodlands High School Art Trust (TWHSAT) a 501(c)3 organization, was established in 2011 to help maintain, conserve and display the student-selected, student-purchased collection of established artists at The Woodlands High School. The vision for the TWHS Art Trust is to see the art collection grow each year and to have it extend through the hallways of the high school. We also offer FREE tours of our collection to schools and other groups by appointment.
Other than the public sculptures around The Woodlands, this is the ONLY permanent collection of art available to the public. It is seen by THOUSANDS of people every day. Please consider supporting this unique collection that sets us apart from other public high schools and strengthens our goal of being one of the best high schools in the state and country.
For more information on The Woodlands High School Art Trust please visit our website: www.twhsat.org or contact Susan Cosculluela at twhsat@gmail.com
CLINIC NOTES
Dizziness
Dizziness is a frequent complaint among students we see in the clinic. This sensation–also sometimes called lightheadedness–can be caused by a multitude of factors, including injury, illness, inner ear disturbance, blood pressure changes, dehydration, hunger, or even stress.
Since sensations of dizziness or lightheadedness present differently to every individual, one of our first steps in determining the cause is asking students what the dizziness they are experiencing feels like. This helps determine the next steps we take to care for students reporting dizziness.
If dizziness is noted when changing positions–such as moving from sitting to standing–it may help to try changing positions slowly and carefully, giving blood pressure an opportunity to acclimate. This can help when dizziness is described as seeing spots briefly when moving from sitting to standing. Dizziness caused by dehydration or hunger can present as fatigue, overall weakness, or feeling faint. Making sure to eat breakfast (quick choices such as granola bars are a great option during early and busy mornings) and drinking water as well as electrolyte-replacement beverages (such as Gatorade or Powerade) can help with this. A feeling of the room spinning may be indicative of an inner ear disturbance, infection, or vertigo. When dizziness is caused by an infection, sinus pressure, headache, nausea, or other symptoms of illness may also be present. Stress is also a frequent culprit. Simply acknowledging stress and anxiety, taking a few moments to relax and reset, and talking about stressors causing worry can help in resolving dizziness when stress is the cause.
When should you see a doctor for dizziness? You should seek advice from a health care provider if dizziness follows a fall or head bump, if dizziness is recurrent, severe, prolonged, or accompanied by visual disturbances, or if dizziness is accompanied by sudden, severe headache or chest pain. Additionally, to reduce risk of fall or injury, be sure anyone reporting dizziness does not walk unaccompanied.

Family Support Through The Welcome Center
We would like to inform you that the Welcome Center, led by Iytzia Cárdenas, has now been relocated to the Jett Center. However, she continues to visit our campus some days a week, mainly when she has scheduled appointments with families.
🧭 Her Mission: Guiding Families Through a New educational System
If you come across a family who may benefit from a one-on-one meeting with Iytzia to better understand and navigate the school system, please don’t hesitate to refer to them.
Iytzia is committed to:
Providing clear guidance and support
Helping families gradually access the information they need
Ensuring they do not feel overwhelmed or lost
🌍 More Than Just a Language Barrier
We often assume the challenge is only about learning a new language—but in reality, it’s much deeper.
Families arriving from other countries experience:
Culture shock.
Grief and loss from leaving their home country, family , friends , etc.
A complete shift in norms and expectations.
All of this can create confusion and uncertainty as they try to adjust. That’s where cultural and emotional support becomes essential.
👩🏫 Iytzia’s Ongoing Impact
With over 12 years of experience on this campus, Iytzia has played a key role in building strong connections with our families. Due to the growing importance of her work, her role has now been centralized, and she now serves all district schools through the Jett Center.
She identifies newly arrived families and reaches out directly—or sometimes is referred by families like you.
📌 How You Can Help
If you notice a student or family who seems to be struggling with adjustment, please:
Reach out to Iytzia ( 281-220-9527) icardenas@conroeisd.net
Share any relevant information.
Encourage families to connect with her.
Even a small gesture can make a huge difference in helping families feel seen, understood, and supported.
Thank you for being a vital part of this support network. Together, we can continue creating a welcoming and inclusive community environment for everyone.
