4th Grade Newsletter
September 8th-12th
Message From Mrs. Eidinger
Hello fourth grade families!
My name is Morigan Eidinger and I will be your child's fourth grade teacher this year. I will be calling all families over this week and next to introduce myself and connect about your child. If I miss you please let me know a day or time that works better for you. I am excited to collaborate with you all this year! I will be sending out a weekly newsletter on Sunday evenings to give you information about the week ahead, so keep an eye out!
Homework
We will be having homework this year of 20 minutes of reading each night. I sent home a calendar to keep track of their reading in their take home folder. The take home folders should remain in their backpack, which means that the reading calendar should be easy to find. Once your child reads for 20 minutes, just sign that day on the calendar to confirm. Since we were not in school on the 1st of this month, that day should remain blank. Starting next month our class will be participating in the Pizza Hut BookIt! Program so that students can get rewarded for their reading, but unfortunately that program doesn't being until October. I will have more information on it then. Students will be checking out library books starting on Wednesday this week, but until then if your student needs a book to read at home please let me know.
What Are We Working On This Week?
Social Emotional
This month’s focus is Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways and we hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it t
Math
In math this week, we are starting Unit 1 of the Ready Math Curriculum. This unit focuses on place value of numbers beyond 1000. The video below outlines the unit's flow and progression so that you can see what your student will be learning.
ELA
We will be starting our first class novel this week called "Dragons in a Bag" by Zetta Elliott. Our first unit will be about the fantasy genre and students will be learning about the elements of plot. This will culminate in students writing their own narrative stories.
Snacks
I do allow snacks in my classroom. I have instructed the students that so long as the snack isn't making a mess and isn't distracting others that they can eat a snack whenever they are hungry. We do have a few allergies in our classroom so I do ask that any snacks that you send with your child not contain nuts.
