Providence Hall High School
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
WEEKLY UPDATE
As we head into another busy and exciting week at Providence Hall, we have several important updates and upcoming events to share.
This week, returning PHHS students will receive their course cards during first period on Monday to select courses for the 2026–2027 school year. The course catalog contains valuable information about each course and can be accessed using the QR code attached to the course card or online in the Academics section of our website. Please note that students with a red dot next to their name have not yet completed an Intent to Return form. If your student has a red dot, please notify the school by calling the front office, completing the Intent to Return (or Not Return) form sent via email from Kristin Adams, or emailing her directly at kadams@providencehall.com. Completed course cards are due Monday, February 9. Students with a submitted Intent to Return form will receive priority when course requests are processed.
We’re also looking forward to several exciting events this week. The Sweethearts Dance is happening this Saturday, and we will also be holding Attendance School. In addition, our Math Department will be hosting its first Math Credit Recovery Help & Tutoring session this Saturday. This session is open to all students, not just those working on credit recovery, and is a great opportunity for extra support for any student who is struggling in math.
HEALTHY RISK-TAKING IS HOW TEENS GROW
As we conclude our resilience focus, we want to highlight one final and essential skill: healthy risk-taking. Resilience cannot grow without it. Teens develop independence, confidence, and a sense of identity by stepping into situations that feel a little uncomfortable but are not unsafe. Healthy risks might include trying out for a team, enrolling in a challenging class, joining a new club, applying for a job, making new friends, or standing up for themselves. These moments stretch students beyond what feels familiar and help them discover what they are capable of handling.
Taking healthy risks does not mean acting impulsively. It means learning how to think things through, prepare for possible outcomes, and accept that failure is not dangerous. It is information. As author J.K. Rowling shared, “It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all.” When teens are willing to try, reflect, and adjust, they build resilience by learning that they can handle disappointment, adapt, and try again.
Families play a powerful role in shaping how teens approach risk. When students are protected from every challenge, resilience struggles to develop. Encouraging students to take risks that feel uncomfortable but safe helps teens build confidence and judgment.Talking through possible outcomes and celebrating effort rather than results teaches students that growth comes from trying, not just succeeding. When teens are supported, not shielded, they learn to trust themselves and their ability to navigate life’s challenges.
TIPS FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS, & GUARDIANS
Students, Try This:
Try something new that feels challenging but safe
-
Ask yourself what you might learn, even if it doesn’t go perfectly
-
Prepare for possible outcomes instead of avoiding the risk
-
Reflect on what worked and what you’d change next time
-
Remember that failure is feedback, not a verdict
Parents & Guardians, Try This:
Help teens evaluate risks by asking: What’s the best thing that could happen? What’s the worst thing that could happen? What’s the most likely outcome?
-
Resist stepping in too quickly to remove challenges
-
Celebrate effort, courage, and growth not just success
Please take a moment to review this week's Principal's Update, as it includes important information.
Choose to have a great week, Patriots!

This summer, the student fellows will travel to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. to visit historic sites and continue their learning in civic engagement and leadership.
We would also like to extend a special thank-you to Mr. Seabury for supporting and mentoring Nivi throughout this process.
