Mustang Families,

It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the end of the first quarter! The first quarter ends Friday, October 16th, and report cards will be available Friday, October 23rd.

As always, families can continue supporting learning at home by reading nightly and practicing math fact fluency. These simple routines can make a big difference in building confidence and strengthening important skills!

As we wrap up a great first quarter, we also have lots of fun ahead! Red Ribbon Week is coming soon, and we have a full week of spirit days planned for our Mustangs as we celebrate making healthy and positive choices.

👇 Be sure to scroll below for information about our upcoming Red Ribbon Week Spirit Days!

Currituck County School Calendar

Our Mustangs had a special start to their morning as Currituck County High School football players and cheerleaders joined us to help welcome students during morning car and bus arrivals! The excitement continued as our special guests visited classrooms to read with our students and spread some KNIGHT pride!

What a wonderful way to build excitement for CCHS Homecoming while giving our little Mustangs the opportunity to connect with some amazing high school role models!

A huge THANK YOU to our Knights for spending the morning with us and making our students feel so special! Once a Mustang, always part of the family!

Monday, October 12th: National School Lunch Week

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.

Awareness Days & School Spirit Days Awareness Days & School Spirit Days

What is the difference?

An Awareness Day is meant to bring attention to and increase understanding of a medical condition, disability, or important cause that impacts our Mustang families. On these days, we simply encourage everyone to wear the designated color shirt to show support.

A Spirit Day is a fun school celebration where creativity is encouraged—students and staff can go all out with themed clothing, accessories, and school spirit!

Information Updates: Double Checking Consent Information Updates: Double Checking Consent

Re: Please read to keep your child from being excluded from the school yearbook!

When you completed this year's Annual Information Update, IF you answered “No” to the following

question:

“Do you grant permission for your student’s directory information to be shared?”

You will receive a letter home to confirm what you intended to select.

We want to make sure you understand what that answer means, because it affects more than most

families expect. “Directory information” includes things like your student’s name, photograph, and participation in school activities. By answering “No,” you have told the district not to share

any of that information without your written permission.

In practice, this means your student may be left out of:

• The school or district yearbook (photos and name captions)

• Honor roll, academic, or achievement recognitions shared with local media or posted publicly

• Athletic and activity rosters, game or event programs, and team photos

• Graduation programs and printed commencement materials

• School or district website and social media posts that name or picture your student

If this is what you intended, no action is needed — your student’s information will continue to be

protected from these uses. Your “No” answer will remain in effect for this school year unless you

notify us in writing that you want to change it.

If this is not what you intended, please use the form sent home to notify the school.

Attendance Matters Attendance Matters

Make Every Day Count

Currituck County Schools kicked off Attendance Awareness Month! Regular attendance plays an important role in helping students stay connected, engaged, and successful throughout the school year.

To help families plan ahead, we’ve created a 2026–2027 Calendar Quick Reference Guide featuring scheduled early release days, teacher workdays, and holidays throughout the school year.

When possible, planning appointments, vacations, and other activities around instructional days is a great way to support consistent attendance and help students make the most of every opportunity to learn, connect, and grow.

Save this guide for easy reference throughout the year. It is also available on our website.
