NTMS Letters for Lumberjacks

A Note from Mrs. Miranto & Dr. Pray
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to emphasize how important these last weeks are for every student. While it can be tempting to start thinking about summer break, this is a critical time to stay focused, finish strong, and take pride in all that has been accomplished this year.
The work completed now matters. Final projects, assessments, and classroom participation all contribute to studentsβ overall learning and growth. This last marking period provides an opportunity to demonstrate progress, reinforce skills, and build confidence. It is also a chance for students to show their perseverance, responsibility, and commitment to excellence.
Let's continue to work hard and finish out the year strong!

June Exams
The June exam schedule has been finalized. Please remember that students should not miss an exam for any reason than illness (medical note required).
Missing an Exam Due to Medical Illness
We are following New York State Education Department guidelines regarding student absence from exams.
A student who is absent from an exam (or portion of an exam) must present a doctorβs note (script) within 24 hours of the exam or portion of exam (or a time specified by a building administrator to the parent/guardian). The doctorβs script must indicate that the student was seen and/or treated by the physician and was physically unable to attend school to take the exam. This includes both Local and Regents Exams.
If medical verification is not presented to a building administrator within 24 hours of the start of the exam, the student will receive a grade of ZERO (0).
District Transportation will be provided for both morning and afternoon sessions. Bus pickup times are as follows:
Schedule June 16th β June 24th
8th Grade Exams: Regular morning run to NTMS ---> Departure from NTMS at 10:30 am
7th Grade Exams: Afternoon run to NTMS (11:00am) ---> Departure from NTMS at 2:30pm
π 7th Graders Study Cell Phone Statistics π±
Mrs. Finiki and Miss Chille's math classes worked on a statistics project this marking period. They gathered data from their own daily cell phone usage and calculated the class average. The data is alarming and eye opening, considering students are in school for 7 hours a day. On average, a typical 7th grader spends 5-6 hours on their cell phone EACH DAY Monday through Friday (weekends were not studied).
Too much screen time can affect:
- Sleep quality, especially when devices are used late at night
- Attention and focus during the school day
- Physical activity levels and overall health
- Social interactions and face-to-face communication skills
We encourage families to support healthy habits at home by:
- Setting consistent limits on daily screen time
- Creating device-free times, especially during meals and before bedtime
- Keeping devices out of bedrooms at night to support better sleep
- Monitoring app and social media use
- Encouraging balance with activities such as reading, outdoor play, and family time
Middle school is a critical time for developing self-regulation and responsible decision-making. Cell phones open a whole world of answers at the touch of a finger. Be sure to monitor your child's use including their social media platforms.
π P-Tech Parent Informational Night π»
Many of our 8th grade students and their parents had the opportunity to hear all about our High School P-Tech program offered as 9th graders. In partnership with SUNY Niagara, our very own NT students have the chance to earn a 2 year degree, FOR FREE, by being part of P-TECH. Students begin learning about computer sciences their freshman year through their senior year, and then continue on to SUNY Niagara with tuition paid for. Students in the program still complete their HS requirements but also have the chance to spend part of their day in the STEM Hub completing hands-on assignments. This program is open to anyone who is interested and it is not to late to sign up.

Family Resources
Summer EBT is a federal program implemented by New York State to help low-income households with school-aged children purchase food over the summer when school is out of session and children can no longer rely on access to free/reduced-price school meals.
The state issued 2026 Summer EBT benefit amount of $120 per eligible child will be issued on an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that families can use just like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to purchase eligible food items at SNAP participating grocery stores, farmersβ markets, and other retailers. This program is an addition to free meals that children ages 18 and younger can get at summer meal sites in their communities. The District wanted to ensure that families were aware of this benefit.
The attached flyer has information that may be helpful in applying for and obtaining these benefits.
