A MESSAGE FROM MRS. PITTSER, SUPERINTENDENT
Springtime is here! As we enter the final quarter of the 2022-23 school year, we'd like to take a moment and connect our families to important information on state testing in Ohio.
At Miami Trace, we recognize that there are multiple ways to measure academic performance, and state tests are only one of them. However, state testing, combined with other items such as classwork, teacher feedback, performance based evaluations and report cards are valuable for improving the teaching and learning processes.
In Ohio, grades 3-8 take the Ohio State Test in English Language Arts and Math. Grades 5 & 8 take the Ohio State Test in Science. High school students take End-Of-Course Tests in English 10, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, American History and American Government.
Below you can find links to testing schedules and resources. If you have any questions about state testing, please reach out to us.
Best of luck to all Miami Trace students participating in testing this Spring!

Nutrition
School Nurses see many students for complaints related to hunger. Skipping breakfast can lead to stomach aches, headaches, and dizziness. Students should be encouraged to eat breakfast every day. Eating breakfast provides students with the energy and focus needed to learn and complete work while at school.
One way that you can help your child develop good eating habits is by modeling the behavior at home. The following examples are given by the CDC for how you can model healthy eating at home:
- Review school menus with your kids and encourage them to try new food items. Use this as a chance to talk to your children about what’s being offered, and the nutrients in different foods.
- Get your kids involved in meal planning at home and let them pick a new vegetable or fruit to try. This is a great way to have older children research different options for using a fruit or vegetable in a meal.
- Got a green thumb? Plant a garden at home, or volunteer to help with a community or school garden.
Another effective way to model behavior at home is by eating together as a family. This is also a good time to connect with students about their day.
If you have any health-related questions or concerns, contact your school clinic to speak with any of our nurses.
