Upcoming Lacrosse Workshops with Kanyen'kehá:ka Knowledge Keepers for Grades 4-6

Mandy Smart and Crystal Loft are Bear Clan and Turtle Clan Kanyen'kehá:ka Knowledge Keepers from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. For over 20 years, they have dedicated themselves to preserving and sharing the traditional teachings of their people through education, community engagement, and cultural revitalization.

Their knowledge spans a wide range of ancestral skills and teachings, including songs and dances, ceremonies, fire starting, hunting and fishing, traditional foods and cooking, leatherwork, beading, wampum teachings, storytelling and legends, traditional clothing, games, and much more.

Mandy and Crystal have led workshops, singing groups, socials, festivals, and hands-on learning experiences in schools and communities across the region. They have taught the making of traditional regalia, shared the history of the Kanyen'kehá:ka, and passed on the values and lifeways of their ancestors through both word and practice.

Rooted in their culture and guided by their teachings, Mandy and Crystal continue to foster a deeper understanding and respect for Indigenous knowledge systems, ensuring these living traditions are carried forward for future generations.

On June 17th, Mandy and Crystal will be leading lacrosse workshops throughout the day, where students will learn about the history of the game, and practice essential lacrosse drills.

Please Return All PRPS Library Books in June

Throughout the month of June we will be working to get all of our books and resources returned. A library book reminder notice will be sent home this week with students that currently have a book out on loan from the PRPS library. Please take some time to look for the book at home. If you feel the book is lost, families can choose to either replace the book by purchasing a new one (please purchase the same book that is unreturned), or by paying the book replacement fee as indicated on the reminder notice.

To pay the fee, please use the unreturned library book fee service in School Day Permissions & Payments. Enter the amount that was on your reminder notice in the box below beside "Select Your Amount:" and then select "ADD TO CART" and proceed to your cart for payment.

Student Classroom Placement

Planning for a school year is a lengthy and thoughtful process. Our tentative school organization is developed by the staffing committee and is based on our school’s projected enrolment and Ministry regulations around class size.

Teachers and leadership teams consider a variety of factors when placing students into classes. Each class is formed by selecting students with a full range of abilities, maturity levels; grouping students to optimize program delivery; combining students to promote a positive classroom atmosphere for learning; placing students with peers with whom they work and relate well to, with efforts to balance gender in each room. As a staff, we do our best to ensure success for all of our students.

If there are exigent circumstances that the school may not be aware of, that families feel may impact a student’s classroom placement, we ask that you connect with your child’s classroom teacher and email Mrs. Croth. We will consider this information to the best of our abilities when determining students’ classroom placements. Please know that educators do their best to place students into classes where they feel the student will thrive while following the structure of the tentative school organization and Ministry/Board guidelines.

Kindergarten students will be notified of their classroom placement in mid August. Students identified as requiring transitional support will be notified of their classroom placement through the transition planning process. Students in grade 1-8 will find out their classroom placement on the first day of school.

Thank you in advance for your ongoing support.

Perth Road Track & Field Team

Congratulations to all of our athletes who participated at the Regional Track and Field meet this week! We have lots of students moving on to District next week. Every single student was exceptional and our school led with pride and encouragement for others. 24 students have moved on to the District Track and Field Meet on Tuesday June 3rd. Good luck to those PRPS Panthers!

Family members are welcome as spectators, to cheer athletes on at the regional meet on May 28th at CARACO field and for those who qualify, at the district meet on June 3rd. Please remember, LESAA athletics are for fun, healthy competition. All spectators at LESAA sanctioned events are expected to adhere to the following:

  • Students are the number one priority
  • Participation/fun, not winning, is everything
  • Fans only cheer, coaches only coach, referees only referee
  • No yelling in anger
  • Respect the volunteer referees (they are often youth)
  • No swearing
  • Set a proper example for good sportsmanship

We look forward to a fun, enjoyable track and field season!

Student Accident Insurance

The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.

UNDER THE EDUCATION ACT THE BOARD IS NOT PERMITTED TO PROVIDE INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR ACCIDENTS TO PUPILS. THEREFORE, the Board recommends consideration of The insure my Kids plan to any parent/guardian, who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent/guardian and the insurance company.

For more information please visit the LDSB website.

School-Day: Permissions & Payments

Perth Road PS is excited to offer our families a secure portal to complete permissions and payments online. With School-Day: Permissions & Payments, you are able to complete permission forms and payments from any web browser using your SmartPhone, tablet, laptop or desktop.

Through this online portal, you will be able to pay for items such as:

  • Field trips
  • Athletic team fees
  • Fundraising offerings

The easy-to-use portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes.

Follow the link to www.school-day.com and connect to your child’s events and activities.
