Building Project Information
Renaissance Update
As we approach the end of the first marking period on October 28, we are excited to recognize our students’ hard work and accomplishments through our Dutchman Renaissance Champion Program! Between November 4 and November 11, Mrs. Rudy will meet individually with students to celebrate successes, review progress toward Renaissance goals, and identify opportunities for continued growth in the next marking period. Our goal is to encourage every student to reflect on their progress and continue working toward success.
Following these meetings, we will share an update in the AE newsletter featuring aggregate, school-wide data on grades, attendance, discipline, and overall program participation. This information will help us reflect on how the program is progressing while protecting individual student privacy.
Students who qualify as Dutchman Renaissance Champions this marking period will enjoy a special treat to celebrate their achievement. Looking ahead, next marking period’s reward will be a movie trip to The Allen Theatre!
As a reminder, students qualify to be a Dutchman Renaissance Champion each marking period by meeting the following expectations:
Academic Achievement: No grade lower than a B-.
Behavior: No major discipline referrals.
Attendance: No more than three excused absences and zero unexcused/illegal absences. Extenuating circumstances (extended illness, medical appointments, etc.) will be reviewed individually to ensure that relevant circumstances are considered consistently.
Punctuality: No more than two latenesses and two early dismissals per marking period.
Because this is a trial year for our program, we welcome family feedback as we evaluate what is working well and identify opportunities for improvement. We look forward to hearing your feedback, questions, and ideas at our upcoming PTO meetings. Family input will help inform our ongoing evaluation and any refinements we consider for the future. Thank you for partnering with us as we celebrate student achievement, encourage personal growth, and champion success at AE!
Safe, Respectful Bus Rides at AE
Ensuring that our students feel safe and comfortable traveling to and from school is one of our top priorities. In a recent student survey, 52% of students reported experiencing moments when they did not feel safe on the bus. Students shared concerns including standing while the bus is moving, blocked aisles, excessive noise, inappropriate language, and items that are not permitted on the bus. We take this feedback seriously and are working together with our bus drivers and students to make every ride as safe and positive as possible.
Reinforcing Safe Choices
To support our drivers and reinforce expectations, building leaders will periodically review bus video footage to help identify concerns, recognize positive behavior, and address safety issues. Students who demonstrate safe and respectful riding habits will earn Dutchman Champion Tickets. When unsafe or inappropriate behavior occurs, students will receive a bus discipline referral in accordance with school expectations and procedures.
Introducing the Golden Bus Award!
We are excited to launch our monthly Golden Bus Award! Each month, we will recognize the bus that demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, respect, and responsibility. Buses with zero discipline referrals and exemplary student behavior will earn the Golden Bus title for that month. Students riding the winning bus will receive a pass for a special treat from the cafeteria. Every student has a role in helping their bus succeed, and each new month brings another opportunity to work toward this recognition!
Partnering with Families
Families play an important role in helping students develop safe and respectful bus habits. Brief, positive conversations with your child after school can reinforce expectations and help students reflect on how their choices affect the driver and fellow passengers.
As a reminder, students are expected to:
Remain seated with their backs against the seat and their bottoms on the seat while the bus is moving.
Keep the center aisle clear at all times.
Use a conversational voice level so the driver can focus on driving safely.
Keep food, drinks, toys, and electronic devices stored in their backpacks unless an item is specifically permitted.
Here are a few questions you can ask your child to encourage reflection and reinforce these expectations at home:
Did you stay seated and keep the aisle clear during your bus ride today?
Did you use a voice level that allowed the driver to concentrate and everyone to ride comfortably?
Did you keep your belongings stored safely in your backpack?
How did you show respect to your bus driver and the other students riding with you?
What is one safe or respectful choice you made today? How did it help make the ride better for everyone?
Thank you for partnering with us to make safe, respectful bus rides a priority. By working together, we can help every student feel more comfortable on the bus and make the ride a positive part of each school day!

Help Students Prepare for the Real World - Volunteer with Junior Achievement!
We're looking for volunteers to bring Junior Achievement programs to our classrooms and make a lasting positive impact in our school.
As a JA volunteer, you'll lead fun, hands-on lessons and activities that help students build essential life skills in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work and career readiness.
Each program consists of five sessions, with each visit timeframe being between 30-45 minutes depending upon grade level.
No teaching experience is needed! Junior Achievement provides all lesson materials, training, and ongoing support—you simply bring your enthusiasm and real-world experiences.
Help students connect what they're learning in school to the world around them while inspiring the next generation.
