Three Weeks In: We Believe

Dear Franklin Academy Families,

It is hard to believe that we are already three weeks into the 2026–2027 school year!

As I walk through our campus each day, I am reminded of why the beginning of a new school year is so special. Our hallways are once again full of energy, our classrooms are alive with learning, friendships are being formed and renewed, and our students are beginning to settle into the routines and expectations that will help them be successful this year.

Most importantly, I see our theme for this year—BELIEVE—already taking shape.

We believe in setting high expectations for our students, but we also believe in providing them with the support they need to reach those expectations. We believe that mistakes are opportunities to learn. We believe that effort matters, that kindness matters, and that every student who walks through our doors has the ability to grow and accomplish great things.

The first few weeks of school are always about adjustment. New teachers, new classes, new expectations, and sometimes new challenges. As we move beyond those first weeks, however, our focus shifts from simply getting started to building momentum.

This is where our partnership with you becomes so important.

Ask your child about what they are learning. Check their grades and assignments. Encourage good attendance and arriving at school on time. Celebrate their successes, but also encourage them when something does not go as planned. And please remind them that asking for help is not a weakness—it is part of learning.

To our families, thank you for trusting us with your children each day. Thank you for your patience during the busy opening weeks of school and for continuing to support our teachers and staff. We know that educating a child is a partnership, and we are grateful to have you alongside us.

We have only completed three weeks, and there is so much ahead of us. There will be successes to celebrate, challenges to overcome, memories to make, and countless opportunities for our students to discover just how much they are capable of accomplishing.

It is going to be a great year.

Believe in our students. Believe in our teachers. Believe in each other. And most importantly, remind our children to believe in themselves.

Go Panthers!

Saturday PSAT Test at Franklin Academy

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Registration is now open for the digital PSAT/NMSQT, which we will administer on campus on Saturday, October 17th.

We are pleased to offer this exam at no cost to our students. The school is fully covering the registration fees for this administration.

🌟 Why Take the PSAT/NMSQT?

Taking this exam offers several major advantages for your student's academic future:

  • National Merit Scholarships: For sophomores (10th graders), this is the only qualifying test for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program, which awards millions of dollars in college scholarships annually.

  • Perfect SAT Practice: The PSAT is highly aligned with the digital SAT. Taking it under real testing conditions is the absolute best way to build confidence, understand the pacing, and reduce test-day anxiety.

  • Free Personalized Prep: After the test, students get a detailed score report linked directly to official SAT practice tools, highlighting exactly where they can improve before taking the actual college entrance exams.

⏱️ Saturday Schedule

  • 7:45 AM — Check-In Opens: Students must arrive on time to find their testing rooms and connect to the school Wi-Fi.
  • 8:00 AM — Doors Lock: Late students cannot be admitted under any circumstances per College Board rules.
  • 10:45 AM — Parent Pickup: Standard testing will conclude, and students will be dismissed at approximately 11:00 AM. (Note: Students with approved extended-time accommodations will finish closer to 12:15 PM).

Ms. Velez's Little Scientists - Hitting the books hard!

Ms. Velez's class got right to work when her students explored science tools. Students used a variety of tools, such as thermometers, pan balances, and microscopes. Her students were able to better understand the purpose of each tool and how scientists use them.

First day of instruction started off with a bang in Ms. Velez's fourth grade classroom! Her students completed an interactive notebook in Math that reviewed place value. They also practiced notetaking for the first time in Science that was used to help complete an assignment!

Skittles Data Lab: Collecting, Organizing, and Graphing Data

Our Year 2 (7th grade) Life Science students used Skittles to practice data collection and graphing skills. They sorted, counted, and recorded the Skittles by color, organized the information in a data table, and created a bar graph. The activity provided students with a hands-on opportunity to practice data collection, classification, counting, organizing information, creating graphs, interpreting data and drawing conclusion.

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT CELL PHONE USAGE

ANY ELECTRONICS DEVICE SEEN will be confiscated and secured in the front office until dismissal time.

STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE all electronics put away and out of sight during instructional time.

Uniform Policy Reminder

Dear Franklin Academy Families,

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of following our school uniform policy. This year, we will be fully enforcing the uniform expectations across all grade levels, and we kindly ask for your partnership in reinforcing these standards at home.

Please take time to speak with your child about the dress code requirements, which are designed to promote a sense of unity, professionalism, and school pride. A student who comes to school properly dressed is better prepared to learn, minimizes distractions, and reflects the values we strive to uphold as a school community.

Below are a few key reminders from our uniform policy:

  • All uniform tops and bottoms must be purchased from our approved uniform vendor, iUniforms, and must include the official school logo.

  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times, with midriffs completely covered—even when arms are raised.

  • Belts (plain black, brown, or navy) are required for students in grades 2–12.

  • Outerwear worn inside the building must have the school logo.

  • Shoes must be closed-toe, safe, and school-appropriate (sneakers, loafers, or Mary Jane style).

  • PE uniforms must also include the school logo and are required on PE days.

  • Hair styles and accessories must not be distracting and are subject to administrative approval.

  • Middle and high school students must wear their school-issued ID badges and lanyards daily.

The full policy is available in our website and by clicking THIS LINK, and we encourage you to review it carefully with your child.

Our goal is not only to ensure that students are dressed for success, but also to cultivate a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all. We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to uphold these standards.

If you have any questions or need support with uniforms, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our school office.

Let’s make it a great year—

Warm regards,

Sergio Delgado

🚗 Student Pick-Up Reminder: Uber and Rideshare Services 🚗 Student Pick-Up Reminder: Uber and Rideshare Services

The safety of our students is always our highest priority. As a reminder, students under the age of 18 will not be released from school to an Uber, Lyft, or any other rideshare service unless an authorized emergency contact is physically present in the vehicle to receive the student.

This procedure is in place to help ensure that every student is released safely and only to individuals authorized by the parent or guardian. While Uber offers a limited Uber for Teens program in some locations, standard Uber policies do not allow unaccompanied riders under the age of 18, and drivers may refuse or cancel rides if they determine the rider is a minor.

If your child needs an alternate method of transportation, please make arrangements with an approved emergency contact listed in your child's records. That individual must be present to receive the student from school.

We appreciate your understanding and partnership as we work together to maintain a safe and secure dismissal process for every student. Thank you for helping us put student safety first.

BYOD POLICY FOR HIGH SCHOOL (Bring Your Own Device)

Franklin Academy follows a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, which allows students to use their personal laptops for instructional purposes while on campus. To ensure responsible use and proper access to our network, families are required to complete the BYOD agreement. Students must keep a copy of the completed document with them until our IT team sets up their device. Please find the link to the document below and submit it at your earliest convenience.

Student Parking Application 2026-2027

As a reminder, student drivers MUST complete the 2026-2027 Student Parking Application in order to be able to drive on campus.

The parking application requires the signatures of the student, parent or guardian, and vehicle owner. If the parent or guardian is also the vehicle owner, they must sign in both places. We will also need copies of the registration and insurance.

We do not consider an application complete without all the required items. Please submit all required documents to the Director of School Operations, Mr. Carnaggie.

Seniors ONLY you may decorate your parking CURB for FREE! Please see the last page of the 2026-2027 Parking Lot Application for specific information. Please submit your sketch for approval by August 23rd, 2026, our Senior Parking Lot painting will occur on August 30th from 8:00AM-12:00PM.

Reminder: Early Dismissal Policy Reminder: Early Dismissal Policy

Until 1:55 PM

Dear Franklin,

This is a friendly reminder that early dismissal for students is permitted every school day only until 1:55 PM. After this time, we cannot accommodate early sign-outs, as our staff and students are transitioning into dismissal procedures for the day.

We ask that you plan accordingly if your child has an appointment or needs to leave school early. Dismissing students after 1:55 PM creates disruptions to the end-of-day routines and compromises the safety and efficiency of our dismissal process.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and orderly school environment.

No Re-Entry No Re-Entry

Franklin Families,

We want to keep everyone informed, as safety remains our top priority. Recently, we’ve noticed several high school students exiting through the single-point entry or bus loop during dismissal and then attempting to re-enter campus for activities such as practice, committee meetings, tutoring, or Sibling Link.

Please note that once a student exits through the gate, re-entry is not permitted for safety reasons. Any student who opens the gate for others or attempts to re-enter will face disciplinary consequences.

We strongly encourage our high school students to plan ahead each day and be mindful of their schedules to ensure they remain on campus if they have after-school commitments.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and secure campus for everyone.
