We would like to thank our students, staff, and families Our PTO started our week off in the nicest way hosting a soup and salad lunch for our staff. Thank you for this delicious experience. This week our Girls' Basketball team has truly shined, winning quarter final and semifinal games in our league tournament. It is so impressive to see how far these students have grown. A big thank you to all the students and families who supported them during these two games. We hope to have information in the next day or two as to when they will be playing in the championships next week.

This will be a regular feature in the Tiger Prints and Parent Updates for the next 6 weeks or so, but once again we invite you to participate in the 5 Essentials Parent Survey, a significant opportunity to share your thoughts on your child’s school environment. Your feedback helps us understand our strengths and areas for improvement, ultimately enhancing the educational experience for all students. We need 20% of families in each school to participate in order to get a report back from the State. We are currently at 1% of families responding. That is a very typical level of response for our community after the first week of sharing the links.

Survey Details:

● Who: Parents, guardians, or caregivers with a child in grades Pre-K through 12

● Languages: Available in English and Spanish

● Time Commitment: Approximately 10 minutes

● Survey Window: February 3 through March 13.

● Link to Survey: Click here to participate

Additional Information:

● If you have more than one child attending the same school, you may complete the survey multiple times if you choose.

● If you have children enrolled in different schools, we encourage you to complete the survey for each school.

● Only one parent per household may submit a survey for a given child.

● You will have the option to provide your email address to receive confirmation of survey completion.

Student Survey:

Students in grades 4-8 will also complete a survey. Click Here for information regarding the Student Illinois 5Essentials Survey.

We appreciate your time and input in helping us improve our school community. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Your’re voice matters to us!

This week, the third graders read folktales to compare the characters and their points of view. The students continued to expand their knowledge of economics, learning about opportunity cost and the relationship between supply and demand. This week in 4th grade, students participated in their book club discussions of The Lemonade War. They explored vocabulary, analyzed character traits, examined plot development, identified themes, and discussed point of view. Students engaged in thoughtful conversations and supported their ideas with evidence from the text. In addition, students practiced identifying text structures in nonfiction reading. They learned how to categorize articles as description, cause and effect, problem and solution, or sequence. This work is helping them strengthen their comprehension skills and better understand how informational texts are organized. In Social Studies, students continued their study of China’s dynasties. They read the traditional Chinese fable The Four Dragons and learned how the four major rivers of China—the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Heilongjiang River, and Pearl River—came into existence according to legend. In 5th grade, students learned strategies for multiplying fractions by whole numbers and fractions by fractions. They also analyzed a fable called "Androcles and the Lion," looking at the rich vocabulary and comparing and contrasting the characters.

Seventh grade ELA students are diving deep into Before the Ever After by Jacqueline Woodson as they craft literary analysis essays. Through close reading and thoughtful discussion, students are examining how figurative language, character development, and theme work together to shape the novel’s powerful message about family, identity, and resilience.
