Halloween Reminders
October is a month filled with excitement for students, especially as Halloween nears.
Algonquin Lakes Elementary will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 29th with a whole school parade beginning at 1:00 pm and classroom parties to follow.
Due to limited space in the classrooms, only pre-approved volunteers arranged by the PTO Head Room Parents and that have completed the online verification process, will be permitted to assist in the classrooms.
Students are permitted to wear costumes on Halloween as long as their attire meets the following set of expectations for a school setting:
- Children should not wear bloody, gruesome, or especially scary costumes. Costumes involving fake blood are not allowed.
- Actual weapons, look-alike weapons, toy weapons or weapon-like objects are not allowed. These accessories should remain at home.
- Masks that cover the face and head are not allowed. Students should not wear make up. Staff members must be able to identify students at all times.
- Costumes that could be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype about someone’s culture, gender, heritage or religion are not allowed.
For students who do not celebrate Halloween, they will have the opportunity to participate in an alternate activity in an alternate location.
We look forward to a fun and safe Halloween!
A Look Back at the Week!
Bulletin Board Crew
Our Bulletin Board Crew has done it again! Their latest bulletin board features a spooky collection of ghosts, each hiding a mystery staff member. Can you guess who’s hiding behind each ghost? Lift the ghost to reveal the staff member underneath and see if your guesses are correct!
Spreading Kindness Through Meals on Wheels
Mrs. Dowdakin's Kindness Club recently shared their creativity and kindness by supporting Meals on Wheels!
Together, they decorated 54 paper lunch bags and created 47 fall-themed placemats to bring a little seasonal cheer to community members receiving meal deliveries.
This special activity gave students an opportunity to practice creativity, teamwork, and compassion while learning how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. We are so proud of our students for finding ways to give back and brighten someone’s day this fall!
ALES PTO Trunk or Treat
Thank you to everyone who helped make our ALES PTO Trunk or Treat a fun and memorable event for our school community! We are especially grateful to our community partners who decorated trunks and shared treats with our students and families, as well as our AMS Beta Club members who generously volunteered their time to help make the event a success. A special thank-you to Naan-Wala’s food truck for joining us and offering delicious food for families to purchase and enjoy!
We appreciate the teamwork, generosity, and school spirit that made this spooktacular evening possible. Be sure to watch our short video recap to see some of the fun-filled highlights!
Lion Pride Corner
At Algonquin Lakes Elementary School, we believe every student has the potential to be a leader. As part of our commitment to developing confident, responsible, and compassionate learners, ALES students will continue to show “Lion Pride” by following our three R’s:
- Respect Yourself
- Respect Others
- Respect Your Environment
Moving from Habit 1:Be Proactive to Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
In October, we are focusing on Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind! This habit encourages students to think about what they want to accomplish and then make a plan to help them get there. When we have a clear goal in mind, we can make thoughtful choices and take steps each day to achieve it.
Families can reinforce this habit at home by encouraging children to:
Set a goal for something they would like to learn, improve, or accomplish.
Create a plan and identify the steps needed to reach their goal.
Visualize success by imagining what it will look and feel like when they accomplish their goal.
Think before acting by asking, “Will this choice help me reach my goal?”
Celebrate progress and recognize the small steps they take along the way.
Week 5: If you could create your own “success story,” what would the ending look like?
Thank you for partnering with us as we help our students become thoughtful, goal-oriented leaders who understand the power of starting with a vision and making choices that help them get there!
