The following video was produced by 6th grade students in the Expeditionary Learning Lab at Chapman Middle School. This digital media lab challenges students to be creative and imaginative with a whole host of fun projects that include videos about famous sports, entertainment, and cultural icons.

These 6th grade film makers researched their subject, wrote the script, compiled the photos, recorded the voice over, and edited the final project in a Project Based Learning environment that bolsters critical thinking as well as independent group work.

SEED Science program at Nash

One of our academics areas for growth is science, we understand that encouraging our students to engage with science opens doors to endless possibilities. It cultivates critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a curiosity that drives progress.

We are proud to announce Mrs. Seferian has secured a SEED grant for our grade one and two students. This grant is funded through The Mass Cultural Council. Through this opportunity our students will engage in hands-on science lessons. Below is a description of the SEED program.

Who are we:

We are PhD scientists who hope to teach young students to love science as much as we do! We have worked in labs and also have taught science in elementary and middle school classrooms for years. We are eager to help make science fun and interesting for both students, and for their teachers who are the biggest science advocates in the classroom!

What do we do:

SEED supports and enhances elementary and middle school science education through innovative partnerships with teachers that elicit systemic change.

Our multifaceted approach focuses on building internal capacity by modeling NGSS-aligned, hands-on activities, coaching classroom teachers, and providing all tools and pedagogy needed for teachers to successfully and confidently teach their young scientists.

Nash’s science teacher representing SEED is Dr. Pearl has been a teacher for 20+ years, working in classrooms ranging from medical schools to elementary schools, and has also been directly involved in creating, implementing and teaching elementary science curriculum for public schools in MA for the past 6 years.

She also has successfully written national and local grants supporting science research for elementary school projects.

Dr. Pearl holds a PhD from Albany Medical College in Pharmacology and Neuroscience.
