Hello from Mrs. Matthys and Sgt. White
Hello everyone! Welcome to the third edition of "Decisions that Stick," where we're about helping SCOH students make awesome choices that lead to a happier, healthier you. This month, we're talking about another important topic: time management.
Time Management: To Infinity and Beyond
How to Master Your Day
Ever feel like there aren't enough hours in the day? Like your to-do list is a magician and your free time has vanished into thin air? Don't worry, you're not alone! But guess what? Not only can you get your time back but it can work for you.
What's Time Management?
It's super simple! Time management is just being smart about how you use your time. You don't have to have a complex system in place. Think about it like a game. You have a certain amount of time each day, and you want to use it to do all the stuff you need and want to do, right?
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Being good at time management helps you with two other super important things:
1. Communication: When you know what you need to do and when, it's easier to tell your friends, teachers, or family about your plans. "Hey Mom, I can play after I finish my homework, which should be by 4 PM!" See? Clear communication!
2. Decision Making: Imagine you have a test tomorrow, and your friend wants to play video games. A good time manager has already set aside time for studying. So, you can make the smart decision to study now and play later! Or maybe you can even fit in a little bit of both!
Time Management: Tips, Tricks and Hacks
- Make a List: Write down everything you need to do. Homework, chores, practice, play.
- Prioritize: What has to get done today? Do that first!
- Take Breaks: Your brain needs a rest! After a little work, take a short break to run around or stretch.
- Say "No”: Sometimes you have to say no to fun stuff if it means you won't finish important things.
- Picture Your Day: Close your eyes and imagine what your day will look like. When will you do homework? When will you play?
Next Issue:
Next issue, we'll dive into drug abuse awareness. Until then, use your time wisely!
Quote
"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least."
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Simply put, be a good manager of your time. Prioritize the important and good decision making becomes simple. If you let fun, social media and procrastination be the boss your goals and your happiness will suffer.
