ELC News
November 8, 2024
Hello ELC Families,
Wow! It's already November!
As we begin to experience colder days, please remember to send your child to school with a warm jacket, hat, and gloves so they can play outside safely. We don’t need snow gear just yet, but once snow becomes a regular part of our day, we will ask that you send in snow pants and snow boots to keep at school during the week.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our fundraiser for new playground equipment! If you had your orders sent to the school, they went home with your child this week. If you ordered items to be sent to your home, you should have received them by now. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any issues with your order.
A few reminders:
- Please send a variety of healthy options for both lunches and snacks.
- If your child stays for After Care, kindly ensure they are picked up by or before 5:30 PM.
- Please make sure your child has a spare set of clothes at school—pants, shirt, underwear, and socks. Kids have a lot of fun (sometimes messy fun!), and sometimes they just don’t want to take the time to stop and use the bathroom. 😊
All this fun is certainly making time fly by! Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here before we know it. I hope you’ve marked your calendar for our Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, November 26, and our Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 17 at 11:00 AM!
Wishing you a lovely weekend!
Warmly,
Tanya

🍎 WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR CLASSROOMS 🍎
Spanish
This week, we had a great time playing a color matching game with our big buddies! We are learning the names of different colors in both English and Spanish:
- Red = Rojo
- Orange = Anaranjado
- Yellow = Amarillo
- Green = Verde
- Blue = Azul
- Purple = Morado
ELC 3 Mrs. Darlene's Owls🦉 & Mrs. Tammi's Zebras 🦓
This week in Music, the children had a blast dancing and moving like rolling pumpkins, falling leaves, and wind while listening to beautiful music. They also played instruments—Scrapers, Shakers, Drums, and Egg Shakers—to the song She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain When She Comes.
Since the library was closed for Election Day, we decided to take an Adventure Walk around our neighborhood instead! We talked about what it means to be a kind and friendly neighbor, and along the way, we saw some chicken friends, a tree with a funny face, a big inflatable turkey, and plenty of colorful leaves to crunch through.
In Spanish and Mass, the 3’s have been enjoying getting to know their 7th grade buddies. Each week, they’re becoming more comfortable and building a great bond.
In Art, we had fun learning that mixing yellow and blue makes green! Our letter of the week was H, and we got creative by making a Hedgehog painting with plastic forks or cut paper, a Hippo, a letter H decorated with Hearts, and a Hummingbird.
ELC 4 - Mrs. Makynzie's Bears 🐻
Our theme this week was "My Five Senses"! We learned all about our five senses and created posters to demonstrate how we use each one. A highlight was using popcorn to explore the senses. We talked about what popcorn tastes like, looks like, smells like, sounds like, and feels like. It was such a fun way to experience our senses together!
Our letter of the week was "S", and we discovered lots of different S words, including star, scooter, snake, and of course, senses!
In our Bible story, we read about the importance of sharing—how it can make us and others happy and how being a good friend to others is always important.
ELC 5 - Mrs. Sherry's & Mrs. Kelly's Lions 🦁
This week, our theme was "Your Five Senses." To explore seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, and tasting, we went on a 'senses walk' around our school. It was a great way to experience all the different ways we interact with the world!
We also had fun using Play-Doh to form letters as we continue to learn about syllables and how to combine sounds to make words.
Our book of the week was "Chicken Little," and we brought the story to life by acting it out with puppets we made ourselves.
In our combined art and science project, we painted pictures with liquid watercolors. While the paint was still wet, we added drops of lemon juice and watched in amazement as the citric acid reacted with the paint. It was a fun way to see science and art come together!
