Dear Richardson Park Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I hope your summer was full of fun, relaxation, and memorable moments with loved ones. The entire staff at Richardson Park Elementary has been working hard to prepare our classrooms, hallways, and learning spaces, and we are thrilled to welcome our students back!

Before we jump into the new year, we want to take a moment to celebrate the tremendous hard work of our students and teachers from this past year. We have been commended from the State of Delaware Department of Education for the growth of our students. We showed growth across every demographic student group on our spring testing. Thanks to our strong partnership between home and school, our students achieved extraordinary learning gains:

Phonics & Word Reading Soared: Our school-wide phonics scores jumped from 31% all the way to 59%!

High-Frequency Words Mastery: 79% of our students mastered their sight words school-wide, with our 5th graders reaching an amazing 96% mastery rate.

State Assessment Progress (SBAC): Because of these strong reading and math foundations, our students also made positive gains on the state SBAC tests in both Reading and Math! Our goal was to improve by 2% in reading and math from the end of 2025. We improved by 6% in reading and 5% in Math. Our teachers and students are to be commended for their hard work. Our students proved that when they set their minds to learning, there is no limit to what they can accomplish!

Now that our students have built such a strong foundation in reading words and writing numbers, it’s time to help them take the next exciting step: explaining their thinking and sharing their voices!

This year, our school-wide theme is: Speak Up! Rise Up!

We want Richardson Park to be a place where every child feels confident to raise their hand, share their ideas, ask questions, and explain how they solved a math problem or what they think about a book. Whether your child is learning to read their very first sentence in Kindergarten or explaining a complex multi-step problem in 5th grade, we will be encouraging them to Speak Up with confidence and Rise Up to meet new goals!

How You Can Partner With Us at Home

You are your child's first and most important teacher! Here are three quick ways you can support our theme at home this year:

  1. Ask "How" and "Why": When your child brings home math work or reads a book with you, ask them: "Can you explain to me how you got that answer?" or "Why do you think the character did that?"

  2. Talk Through Math Daily: Look for math in everyday life—grocery shopping, cooking, or telling time—and encourage your child to talk through the numbers with you!

  3. Read and Discuss Together: Spend 15–20 minutes reading together every night and ask your child to describe their favorite part using new vocabulary words.

We are deeply honored to partner with you in your child’s education. Together, we are going to make this school year our most inspiring, communicative, and successful year yet!

Let’s get ready to raise our voices, support one another, and Rise Up together!

Sincerely yours,

Cordie Greenlea

Principal

Atentamente,

Cordie Greenlea

Dress code:

Richardson Park students will not be required to wear uniforms this year. We will follow the district dress code policies found in the student handbook.

Student Dress Code The following guidance shall govern the dress of students in RCCSD schools. The RCCSD believes that:

● All students should be provided the environment, resources and commitment necessary to ensure that they succeed.

● Students and their parents/guardians hold the primary responsibility in determining their personal attire, hairstyle, jewelry, etc.

● Schools are responsible for ensuring that student dress does not interfere with the health or safety of any student and does not contribute to a hostile or intimidating environment for any student.

● Schools are responsible for the safety of the school community.

● Students should be able to dress in a manner that expresses their individuality without fear of unnecessary discipline or body shaming.

● Students and staff are responsible for managing their own personal distractions. ● Students should not face unnecessary barriers to attending school. Specialized Classes/Programs

● Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities, including physical education, science labs, CTE classes, and other activities where unique hazards or specialized attire or safety gear is required. Dress Code

● Students must wear clothing including both a shirt with pants or skirt, or the equivalent. The torso must be covered and undergarments must not be visible.

● Students must wear shoes with a sole.

● Hats and other head coverings are not to be worn in schools except in cases of medical, and religious reasons.

Clothing may not:

depict, advertise or advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances. ● depict pornography, nudity or sexual acts.

● share or depict hate speech.

● Depict violence or threaten the health or safety of any other student or staff member.

This policy permits schools approved through RCCSD Administrative Memorandum 8001.7 School Uniform to continue with their policy provided that it is gender neutral and inclusive of attire worn for religious reasons. Schools adhering to this administrative memorandum should also follow the consequences below.

Consequences

● Students have the right to be treated equitably. Dress code enforcement will not create disparities, reinforce or increase marginalization of any group, nor will it be more strictly enforced against students because of racial identity, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, gender nonconformity, sexual orientation, cultural or religious identity, household income, body size/type, or body maturity.

● Principals are required to ensure that all staff are aware of and understand the guidelines of this policy.

● Staff will not enforce the dress code of one student in front of other students.

● Students shall not be removed from class as a consequence for wearing attire in violation of this policy unless the attire creates a substantial disruption to the educational environment, poses a hazard to the health or safety of others, or factors into other student Code of Conduct violations.

● A typical first response for a violation of this policy is student redirection. Students should be provided the opportunity to change into dress code compliant clothes.
