Principal's Message Principal's Message

Hola Scotties!

This has been a very difficult week for our Scott community. The news that Scott's Spanish DLI program could be moved to Rigler as part of the Rightsizing process weighs heavily on all of our hearts and minds. Our Scott community has worked very hard to build a strong, cohesive, diverse and joyful school for both our neighborhood and DLI students and families. I am so proud of the work we have accomplished together and will be forever grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this community.

I also want to emphasize that at this time, these are scenarios and that a final decision has not yet been made. The school board will vote in December and until then, there are multiple opportunities for communities to engage and provide feedback to the district and the board. I will continue to share those with you all. I encourage everyone who is interested in learning more about the reasoning behind the decisions, the data being analyzed and the impacts to our community to access the PPS Rightsizing webpage: www.pps.net/rightsizing. I will also be hosting a Principal Coffee Talk to answer questions about the Rightsizing Process and potential impacts to Scott on Monday, October 12 at 8:15 in the cafeteria. I will ask that families wait outside until 8:15 so that we can ensure all of our kindergarten and first grade students have time to eat breakfast and go to class prior to bringing in families.

Most importantly, when we speak to our children about this potential transition, please assure them that the adults in their school and homes are here to support them, that all feelings are valid and we will all work together to make sure that they are cared for. Our teachers are also working to help students process this news and their feelings. Our students and their wellbeing remain our highest priority. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need additional support or with questions.

Warmly,

Tiana Ahmann

Student Medications Protocol Student Medications Protocol

Hello!

Please reach out to the health room if your student carries any medication in their backpack. This includes rescue medications like an inhaler or EpiPen, over-the-counter medications such as pain relievers (e.g., ibuprofen), lactaid, cold/cough medicine, etc., and prescription medications.

By law, rescue medication is allowed to be carried by any student regardless of age, but all other medications need to be checked in at the health room. If your child carries rescue medication, please let Ana or me know, and we'll have you fill out a form authorizing your child to carry it on them or in their backpack. This helps us know what medications are circulating in the school, for everyone's safety.

Thank you!"

Warmly,

Rightsizing Engagement Opportunities Rightsizing Engagement Opportunities

As the district works through the process of rightsizing and considering school closures, consolidations and restructuring, it is important that our community stakeholders have a voice in the process. I strongly recommend that everyone attend at least one engagement opportunity to share your experiences, thoughts and values related to the rightsizing efforts. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about this process and sharing feedback with Portland Public Schools.

A member of our Scott School community has a citrus allergy. We ask that all citrus foods, drinks and products (for example cleaning supplies and lotions) are kept at home at all times. We appreciate your cooperation and support in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all.
