May 10, 2026
Dear Wessagusset Families,
We want to wish all of our Wessagusset mom's a very special Happy Mother's Day!
Thank you to all of our families for making last week’s Teacher Appreciation Week so special! Our staff enjoyed a delicious breakfast and lunch, sweet treats, an energy bar, and gift cards on the Giving Tree in our staff lunch room throughout the week. Your thoughtfulness and generosity made the week truly extraordinary. We are so grateful for the strong partnership we share with our families and deeply appreciate all of your support!
Wessagusset was proudly represented at Tuesday’s Brain Show event! Our students and families did an amazing job demonstrating teamwork, problem-solving, and school spirit throughout the competition. It was wonderful to see our students cheer one another on during the event. The audience was fully engaged, and the energy in the room made the evening enjoyable for everyone involved. We are hopeful that the Brain Show will become a fun new tradition in Weymouth for years to come!
On Thursday evening, our Musical Theater Club took the stage to perform Here Comes the Sun, and they truly shined! Students impressed the audience with their singing and stage presence. Their hard work and dedication were clearly evident in every part of the performance. It takes courage and commitment to perform in front of an audience, and our students rose to the occasion beautifully. Thank you to our Musical Theater Club volunteers, Parent Council, and families for supporting our students and helping make this performance possible. Wessagusset is filled with talented students, and Thursday night was a wonderful celebration of their gifts and hard work!
This week grade 3 will be taking the Math MCAS assessment on Wednesday and Friday. Please remember to tuck them in bed early and make sure they eat a good breakfast at home or at school! If you are sending in focusing treats, please make sure they are unwrapped and in a small plastic baggie with no more than 5 pieces of hard candy or gum - no chocolate, please. This will be the final MCAS assessment for grade 3.
Have a wonderful week!
Kind regards,
Tanna Jango, Principal
Heidi Reinhart, Assistant Principal

Grade 3 - Cereal Box Domino Challenge
This month’s PBIS focus is on Showing Kindness, and our third graders are putting that focus into action by collecting new, unopened boxes of cereal for the Weymouth Food Pantry. Students are accepting all types and sizes of cereal boxes.
At our May PBIS Assembly, we will line up all of the donated cereal boxes to see how long of a cereal chain we can create before setting off a fun domino chain reaction!
We would greatly appreciate your support in helping our students give back to the community. Please consider donating a box of cereal to support the Weymouth Food Pantry and families in need.
Bus Transportation Applications for 2026-27
Bus applications for the 2026-27 school year will open this week. Families will receive an email with a link to the application form, along with the student information needed to complete the process. Families must complete the form for every K-12 student who needs bus transportation next year. Please complete and submit the form by the end of this school year, June 26th. If you have questions about the application process or payment information, please contact your school office.
Memorial Day Ceremony & Grandparents/Special Person Day Celebration
Please join us on Friday, May 22nd for our Memorial Day Ceremony from 9:30 to 10:30.
Grandparents and Special Guest are invited to visits from 10:45 to 11:15. Rain date Tuesday, May 26th.
All families are invited to attend our outdoor Memorial Day Celebration which will include performances by each grade level and a special guest speaker. Following the ceremony, Grandparents and Special Guests are invited into the school to visit their student’s classroom and meet their teachers.
Important Information:
Families are encouraged to bring their own chairs/seating for the outdoor ceremony.
Students will parade through the main driveway area. For the safety of our students and staff, the driveway will be closed. Please use Pilgrim Road, Wadaga Road, and the Beach Parking Lot (off of North Street) for parking.
Parents wishing to dismiss their student after the classroom visit must send in a dismissal note to the office at least 2 days prior to the event. Although we do not encourage this, we understand that it may be necessary for some families. After the classroom visits, parents who are dismissing their child must go to the office using Door #1. The office will then call the classroom and your child will be sent up to the office to meet you. This ensures a safe and orderly dismissal process. We ask for your patience as there has been a long line in the past. As always, please be sure that you have your proper identification. Please note if someone other than the parent/guardian is dismissing a student the office must have a note with the name of the individual who will be dismissing.
Reminder for Grade 5 Families
Grade 5 Residency Verification
This fall the Weymouth School Committee updated Policy JF: School Admissions to require a verification of residency for students in Grade 5. Families of students in Grade 5 will need to re-establish residency in Weymouth before transitioning to the Maria Weston Chapman Middle School next year. This procedure will enable our district to maintain accurate residency and registration data while confirming continued enrollment eligibility. More information can be found here: Gr. 5 Residency Verification
Required proof of residency documents must be submitted between January 12, 2026, and May 29, 2026. Failure to complete residency verification by May 29, 2026 may affect your child’s enrollment, and they may not have a schedule or be able to participate in school activities at the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

Dear Wessagusset Families,
We hope you have enjoyed a relaxing weekend!
This week our fourth and fifth-grades will participate in Math MCAS. Our third-graders will participate in Math MCAS next week. We have a few tips and reminders for you.
MCAS Testing Tips for Families
- Prioritize a Good Night’s Sleep - A consistent bedtime routine helps students feel well-rested and ready to focus.
- Start the Day with a Healthy Breakfast - A balanced breakfast (protein + whole grains) gives students the energy they need to stay focused.
- Be On Time - Arriving to school on time helps students feel settled and ready to begin the day without stress.
- Offer Encouragement - Simple reminders like “Do your best” and “Take your time” can boost confidence and reduce anxiety.
- Limit Screen Time Before Bed - Less screen time at night helps students fall asleep more easily and wake up refreshed.
- Keep Mornings Calm - A relaxed, predictable morning routine sets a positive tone for the day.
- Stay Hydrated - Don't forget a water bottle because drinking water hydrates the brain and helps students stay focused throughout testing
Focus Treats
Families may send in up to 5 pieces of gum or hard candy for their child on each day of MCAS testing. Please place items in a ziplock type baggie and ensure they are unwrapped ahead of time. This helps minimize distractions and supports a focused testing environment for all students.
Cell Phones and Smartwatches
Cell phones and smartwatches are not allowed during MCAS testing. Students will place these items in their backpacks prior to testing, where they will remain for the duration of the day.
Last week was busy and fun for our students! We had an highly engaging assembly by Parker 'Basketball' Jones on Monday. His message of showing kindness, perseverance, and owning our mistakes was impactful for our student. We heard some fifth-grade students saying that this was the best assembly they have ever had. Mr. Jones used strategies to engage all student throughout his time with us. We were able to enjoy this outstanding assembly due to the success this year's Boosterthon.
Some of our students had the opportunity to participate in Unified Game Day at the high school on Friday. Our student athletes had a fantastic time engaging in a variety of activities throughout the morning. The event was well organized, with high school students serving as leaders and guiding our athletes to each activity around the football field. To celebrate their participation, each student athlete received a medal at the end of the event. It’s safe to say everyone returned to Wessagusset a bit tired but with big smiles and wonderful memories from a very special day!
Have a wonderful week!
Kind regards,
Tanna Jango, Principal
Heidi Reinhart, Assistant Principal
Keep Kids Safe and Secure Online - for Adults
As our students continue to engage with technology both in and out of school, we encourage families to stay actively involved in their child’s digital life. Taking time to monitor what children are accessing on their personal devices and setting clear expectations can make a meaningful difference. Just as important are ongoing conversations at home about online safety, responsible use, and making thoughtful choices. When families and schools work together to support safe and positive technology use, our students are better equipped to navigate the digital world.
This presentation is aimed for adults. We encourage all families and caregivers to attend this informative and timely session. Your awareness and involvement play a critical role in keeping children safe.
Topics covered:
Social Media 101 & Digital Footprint Protecting Against Online Predation
- Gaming
- Types of Sextortion – Sexually Motivated, Financially Motivated and Violence and Control Motivated
- Generative Artificial Intelligence
Victim Support & Resource
