Dear Adelaide Families,

I am writing to share some important news with you. After five wonderful years serving as principal of Adelaide Elementary, I will be transitioning into a new role as an Elementary Director for Davis School District.

This decision comes with a mix of excitement and deep gratitude. Adelaide has truly been a special place for me. I have had the privilege of working alongside exceptional teachers and staff who give their all each and every day for students. Their dedication, care, and commitment to excellence are what make this school so remarkable.

Most importantly, my heart is with our students. It has been an honor to watch them grow, learn, and shine. Their energy, resilience, and kindness are what make Adelaide such a joyful and inspiring place to be. I will carry those memories with me always.

I am incredibly thankful for the support of our families and community. Your partnership, trust, and involvement have made a lasting impact and have helped create a school culture where students can truly thrive.

While I am excited for this next chapter, leaving Adelaide is not easy. This community has meant so much to me, and I am grateful for the relationships we have built together. I will be cheering on Adelaide from the sidelines as you continue your efforts to ensure students thrive in an safe environment with high expectations for learning. I know the school is in excellent hands with new Principal Kerianne Carter and Administrative Intern Jenn Shelton, who will continue to lead with care and commitment to students.

Adelaide will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your children’s journeys. It has been a true honor to serve this community.

With gratitude,

Principal Patty Arbon

We are happy and excited to announce and welcome Mrs. Kerianne Carter who will be the Principal at Adelaide beginning July 1, 2026. Here is a special message from Mrs. Carter:

My name is Kerianne Carter, and I am so happy to introduce myself as the new principal of Adelaide Elementary. My family and I feel incredibly lucky to join the Tiger family! I’ve had some time to meet with Adelaide staff, and each conversation has confirmed what I knew I would find; Adelaide is a special place. There is so much heart here, and you can feel how deeply people care about children. I can tell it is a school where students are known, loved, and believed in. At my core, I believe schools should feel joyful; happy places where children belong, families feel welcomed, and adults feel valued. Relationships and open communication are at the heart of how I lead, and I want families to know my door is open. I would truly love to hear from you, because the strongest schools are built when we work together! One of my biggest hopes is to help our community proudly tell the Adelaide story and share the message that this truly is one of the best schools, anywhere! I want to build on the wonderful things already happening, strengthen our school community, and help more families see Adelaide as the place they want to be, so we continue growing as a strong and united school. I’m coming with a listening heart, deep respect for this community, and so much excitement for what we can build together. I truly believe the best is ahead for Adelaide, and I feel honored to be part of that story.

This is a picture of me and my kinder Brooks on the first day of school — he is excited to come and be a Tiger with me next year!

Important Update for 3rd and 4th grade Learning Model Important Update for 3rd and 4th grade Learning Model

As we plan for the upcoming school year, I want to share an important update regarding our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. Due to a reduction in staffing, we are thoughtfully adjusting our structure to continue providing high-quality instruction and strong support for all students.

Next year, our 3rd and 4th grade students will be part of what we are calling a POD schedule.

Here’s what that means:

Each student will be assigned a homeroom teacher who will serve as their primary point of connection—supporting them with daily routines, building relationships, and helping them feel a strong sense of belonging.

Throughout the day, students will rotate between teachers for specific subjects, allowing each teacher to specialize and provide focused instruction. During these rotations:

  • Students will be grouped with other 3rd graders for 3rd grade instruction and other 4th graders for 4th grade instruction

  • One teacher will teach all 3rd grade language arts

  • One teacher will teach all 4th grade language arts

  • One teacher will teach math to both grades, working with 3rd graders during one block and 4th graders during another

This structure allows teachers to focus deeply on their content areas while ensuring students receive targeted, grade-level instruction. It also creates opportunities for collaboration among teachers and consistency across classrooms.

We understand that this is a change from our traditional model, and we are committed to making this a positive and successful experience for students. To help visualize how this will work, we are sharing a color-coded schedule so you can see how students move throughout their day.

Our goal remains the same: to ensure every Adelaide student thrives in a supportive environment with high expectations for learning.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support.

All About Being a Title 1 School All About Being a Title 1 School

What is a Title 1 school?

A Title 1 school is a school that receives federal funds to enhance the educational program of the school to raise academic achievement for all students. This program is available to schools where at least 40% of students come from low-income families. The primary goal is to ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

How do we maintain our Title 1 status?

It is vitally important for all parents to apply for Free and Reduced School Meals each year since Title 1 status is determined by the percentage of students who qualify. If we do not meet the 40% threshold, we no longer receive Title 1 funding. It is helpful to apply even if you think you may not qualify. If you do qualify, you are not obligated to take advantage of the benefit; it is purely optional.

How does Title 1 funding help my student(s)?

Title 1 funds are used to hire extra teachers and tutors to provide smaller class sizes and to provide targeted small-group instruction for our students. In addition, all teachers and tutors must be highly qualified to work in a Title 1 school. Title 1 funding provides a variety of other benefits to students as well which may include supplemental personnel, supplemental books and supplies, professional learning opportunities for teachers, extended learning opportunities for students, and parent and family engagement activities.

What can I do?

Parents can support students by supporting student learning as identified in the Adelaide Elementary School – Home Compact.

Please support our school by filling out the application for Free and Reduced School Meals. You can apply through your myDSD guardian account.
