Blevins Bulletin
December 8th , 2023
August 8, 2025 Principal's Message
Hello Blevins Families,
We are just under a week away from the start of a new school year and we can't wait to see our Bruin students!
This bulletin has important information to prepare for the new year, so please explore. Join us for Back to School Night on Tuesday, Aug. 12th, 5:30-7pm. Your child has the option to check out a locker this year. The bulletin will contain a link to request a locker. If you complete the request by today, then we plan to have that locker available to you on Back to School Night.
Please reach out to our front office staff with any questions that arise. We are here to help!
It's going to be a wonderful school year. At Blevins, we are committed to providing the best middle school experience for your child.
Proudly,
Joe Zappa, Principal

Important Information from PSD
Safety Spotlight: Bus Stop Safety
Student safety is our top priority—especially around school buses. Please help us by teaching your child how to cross the street safely when getting on or off the bus:
- Always cross in front of the bus, never behind it.
- Take at least 10 big steps in front of the bus before stopping.
- Make eye contact with the driver and wait for their signal to cross.
- Look left, right, then left again before entering the road.
- Stay alert—no phones or headphones while crossing.
Bus stop safety is a shared responsibility. Practice safe habits together and help us keep every student safe.
Handle the Heat
While summer break might be coming to a close, that doesn’t mean the end of high temperature days here in Northern Colorado. We want to remind the PSD community about district policy regarding heat-related early release or closure, which you can learn more about by following this link.
Please note that all elementary and middle schools will release students early or close regardless of if they have AC or not in the event of a heat-related early release or closure. The only schools that will remain open in the event of a heat-related early release or closure are:
- Fort Collins High School
- Fossil Ridge High School
- Poudre High School
- Rocky Mountain High School
- Timnath Middle High School
- Wellington Middle High School
- PSD Global Academy
- PSD transition programs
- All mountain schools.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application
Even though breakfast and lunch will be provided for free, we need families to continue sharing household income information through the Free and Reduced Meal Benefits form for our district to receive full access to federal funding. Be sure to submit a Free and Reduced Lunch application ahead of the first day back. Completing this form not only makes students eligible for waived school fees and benefits through Fort Collins City programs, but also helps PSD receive federal funding to support classrooms and learning opportunities; your child’s eligibility status is confidential and must be renewed annually.
To do this, parents can fill out two forms: the Free and Reduced-Priced Meal online application, found here, as well as the Permission to Share form through ParentVUE.
Updating ParentVUE information
Sometimes life can be a little hectic, so it is important to make sure that your information is up to date and correct in ParentVUE, especially when it comes to proper contacts and authorized pickup information for your child or children.
Be sure to check this information in your ParentVUE account to ensure that the right people can be contacted when needed or a student can be released to the appropriate person.
No Phone Zones
All PK-8 schools are cell phone free zones from bell to bell. Students must keep phones, headphones, and other electronic accessories out of sight and on silent unless approved by an administrator or specified in an IEP, 504 plan or Health Care Action Plan.
In grades 9-12, devices must be put away during class and instructional time but may be used during passing periods, off periods, lunch, before and after school, or for approved academic activities.
For full details, visit the PSD Code of Conduct page, found here.
Sincerely,
Poudre School District
