ECHS October Rising Star - Tyreiss Wilkes

This week, I would like to highlight our El Camino Rising Star for the month of October - Tyreiss Wilkes!

We are proud to recognize Tyreiss Wilkes as our Rising Star for his incredible resilience, determination, and achievements. Despite navigating the challenges of being the primary caregiver in his household as his father battles cancer, Tyreiss has continued to shine as a leader and role model. He has maintained an impressive GPA through his dedication to his academics, all while being an active member of AVID and the Black Student Union and dedicating countless hours to his community. Tyreiss consistently goes above and beyond in everything he does, inspiring those around him with his positivity, hard work, and perseverance.

The Oceanside Chamber’s Rising Star Student of the Month Program was created to recognize and celebrate high school seniors who have overcome significant life challenges while remaining committed to their education. These inspiring students exemplify resilience, determination, and hope for the future. Each month from September through March, seniors from five Oceanside high schools are selected as their school’s “Rising Star of the Month.” Honorees are invited to share their personal stories at the Chamber’s Rising Star Monthly Breakfast, an event attended by school district leaders, business professionals, elected officials, and community supporters.

“No Go List” for Excessive Tardies

Getting to class on time every period and every day is essential to our students academic success. Participating in extracurricular dances and activities is a privilege for our students. Therefore, students with 20 or more tardies are NOT eligible to attend the Homecoming football game or the dance due to excessive tardies.

Students can clear up to 10 tardies by attending Saturday School. Our next Saturday School session will be held next semester. If you have any questions about how many tardies your student has, please check your Aeries Parent portal to see the dates and periods of their tardies.

OUSD Gradual Release of Artificial Intelligence by Grade Level

OUSD is preparing students to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly — not all at once, but grade by grade, with the right guardrails at every step to ensure students are prepared to be critical consumers and responsible users of AI.

  • Elementary (TK–5): Students do not have direct access to AI. Learning focuses on teacher-led demonstrations in TK–2 and hands-on, real-world activities in grades 3–5.

  • Middle School (6–8): Students begin using AI directly, learning to evaluate its answers and spot potential bias.

  • High School (9–12): Students actively use, design, and cite AI tools to prepare for college and future careers.

This gradual release model ensures our students become critical thinkers and responsible users of technology every step of the way.

ECHS Student / Parent / Guardian Handbook, 2026-27

If you are looking for information regarding our El Camino policies and procedures, please be sure to take some time to check out our updated 2026-27 ECHS Student/Parent/Guardian Handbook.

Other ECHS News...

  • Attendance Office: Due to the high volume of students being released at the end of the day, we are unable to call out students for the last 20 minutes of the day unless this was arranged the day prior or earlier in the day. Cut off times: M, T, Th, F - 3:00pm / Wed 2:30pm. It is always helpful and more efficient to email attendance.echs@oside.us or call (760-901-8002) in your student’s absence early so that the Attendance office staff can prepare a dismissal pass in advance! We really appreciate your help with this!

  • Cell Phone Policy: The purpose of our school wide Cell Phone Policy is to ensure all students will not be distracted by cell phone use. To ensure that our scholars can focus on their academics, we will support them by having students ensure their cell phone is off and placed inside their backpack as they enter the classroom for each teacher. For more information, check out our ECHS Cell Phone Policy as well as our district policy of Off and away during the day - OUSD.

  • Tardy Policy: As a Responsible student, being on time to each class allows time to organize materials to focus on the lesson and/or activities for that class. Alternatively, students who are late to class, disrupt instruction, distract their classmates and may have a lower grade point average (GPA) due to missed instruction. Link to ECHS Tardy Policy

  • Student Tip Line: OUSD aims to be a safe, affirming, and inclusive space for all individuals. If you are aware of a violation that compromises all schools and spaces being safe for all people, or if you are the victim of any incident/violation, please use our anonymous reporting option found on our district website. More info here: https://www.oside.us/student-tip-line

  • Community Resource Guide: OUSD is pleased to partner with several community organizations to provide our families with resources for food, clothing, shelter, health and mental wellness, and many other services.
