As the school year begins, this fall might be the first time your child is using an iPad for school work. Or maybe this coming winter might be the first time your 3rd-grader takes home their school-issued device.

We know parents can have many questions about the use of technology at school. We want to answer them so you can best understand what your child is learning in class, and and how you can support that at home.

We have created a series of five videos that share in detail how iPads are used to support and enhance learning in the classroom; how our Digital Citizenship program works and helps prepare students for the online world; and how you can still honor your own household rules on tech use. '

Please click below to watch the first video and click here to explore a parent handbook that also answers frequent questions on our One-to-One iPad program.

In the coming weeks, please watch this newsletter as we continue highlight the rest of the video series. Thank you for your partnership in helping our students become responsible digital navigators!

Home game tonight, Sept. 4

Dear future GBS Titans,

As we begin another exciting season of Titan athletics, we look forward to welcoming our future Titans to Glenbrook South. Our home football games are a wonderful opportunity to come together, show our Titan pride, and support our student-athletes. We want to remind families of an important expectation designed to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Middle school students: All students who are middle school-aged or younger must be accompanied and supervised by their parent(s)/guardian(s) throughout the game to attend home football games at Glenbrook South.

  • Students will not be permitted to enter the event without their parent/guardian present.

  • One parent/guardian cannot bring a large group of children, as each child must have their parent/guardian present.

  • The accompanying parent/guardian is expected to remain with their child and provide supervision throughout the entire event.

  • Middle school students found in the stadium without a parent/guardian will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to re-enter.

  • Middle school-aged students, and their parents/guardians can only enter at the main gate of the stadium.

Reminders for tonight - On Friday, September 4, we are competing against Niles North at 7 p.m. However, prior to this game, there is also a Prelim Flag Football game vs Fremd at 5 p.m. Admission will be charged for this game, and Activity & Booster Passes will be honored.

We are proud to be a community high school and appreciate that our athletic events bring together current students, future Titans, families, alumni, and community members. The safety and security of everyone attending our events remains our highest priority. We appreciate your partnership in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for everyone who comes to support the Titans. Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to seeing you under the Friday night lights! Go Titans!

Tryouts start Tuesday, Sept. 8

Dear Maple Families,

Calling all scientists, engineers, problem-solvers, and science enthusiasts!

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity for your student to explore science, engineering, teamwork, and problem-solving beyond the classroom?

Maple School’s Science Olympiad Team is gearing up for its third year! Science Olympiad is a national team-based STEM competition where students work together and compete in 23 hands-on events covering biology, chemistry, physics, Earth science, and engineering. Students have the opportunity to develop their scientific knowledge, build practical skills, solve challenging problems, and work as part of a team. This year, we are hoping to form one Varsity team and two JV teams, with space for approximately 45 students.

Interested in trying out? Tryouts for Science Olympiad tryouts will be after school Tuesday-Thursday, September 8-0 (attend one day only) until 5:00 p.m. in Room 10.

Please note that tryouts are competitive. Because we have a limited number of spots, not every student who tries out will necessarily be selected for a team. Team placement will be based on a variety of factors, including tryout test scores, previous membership, students’ knowledge, teamwork, engineering/building skills and collaboration during the tryout process.

We need parent coaches!

Science Olympiad is a true community effort, and our program cannot run without parent volunteers! We are looking for parents who are willing to serve as volunteer coaches for individual events. You do not need to be a professional scientist or engineerβ€”if you have an interest or experience in a particular area, we would love to have you share your expertise with our students.

Parent coaches can work with students to prepare for their assigned event, help them practice, and attend competitions when possible. You don't have to be a Science Olympiad expertβ€”we can help you get started!

If you have questions about the Science Olympiad team or would like to volunteer as a parent coach, please contact Mrs. Kearns. tkearns@district30.org. We are excited to kick off year 3 of Maple Science Olympiad and look forward to another fantastic season of science, teamwork, and competition!

To ensure a smooth start to the school year, please review the following Illinois health requirements:

Sixth-graders and students new to District 30

  • Health exam - All 6th-graders and any student who is new to District 30 must have a completed Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination on file before the first day of school. The physical exam must have been completed within the past 12 months and include all required immunizations. Students who do not have the required documentation after October 15, 2026, may be excluded from school per state mandate until it is received.
  • Dental exam: Illinois law requires students entering 6th grade to submit a completed Dental Examination Form by May 15, 2027. The dental exam must have been completed within the required state timeframe (18 months prior to the deadline).

All students - medications and health care plans
  • If your child requires medication at school or has a medical condition that requires a health care plan, please complete and submit the required forms before the first day of school. If updated forms are not received, the school will continue to follow the previous year's health care plan for students with life-threatening allergies or other qualifying medical conditions until new documentation is provided.

All forms are available on the Maple website.

Maple athletics:

If your child will be participating in Maple athletics, it is required that your student have a health exam that was completed within one year prior to the last game of the season, on file in the health office.

Medication dispensation:

Before any medication can be dispensed, the school must receive written instructions and a signed permission form from the student’s physician and parent. All medications must be properly labeled and kept in the Health Office. Parental permission must also be obtained for non-prescription medication.

All forms can be dropped off with a member of the Maple front desk team, or emailed to School Nurse Mrs. Katie Weissler (kweissler@district30.org). Please contact the Health Office at 847-400-8908 if you have questions.
