Getting off on the right foot..........4th Quarter

This week we had some great lessons and learning activities! There are some great things going on in our classrooms! We have seen many great activities, and student engagement is at a high level! Some classes are reviewing for the upcoming MAP test, and the students have been learning about MIT's (Missouri Instructional Testlets). The testlets give us insight on how the students understand the grade level standards.

You can view your students grades 24/7 by logging into School Insight (Teacher Ease).

Last week we held our 3rd Quarter Reward and 3rd Quarter Awards Assembly. Students were rewarded for their grades, no missing work, attendance, completion of their AR Goals, and Exact Path Goals, and good behavior. At the awards assembly we recognized honor roll, high honor roll, attendance, students of the month, and teacher class awards.

Congrats to our students who were selected to participate in the Jefferson County Honor Band:

We have used up all of our AMI Days for the school year (Days 1-5). We have one more Monday to make-up, on March 31st.

This week we had had our first two track meets (Herky & Festus). Our student-athletes has been focused and practicing to improve their skills. We are proud of them. Thank you goes out to our track coaches, Ms. Emily Zysk & Mrs. Macy Hahn.

Our 7th grade field trip is scheduled for Monday, April 7th. They are heading to the Missouri Kids Unplugged (MKU) farm. The students will be learning about recycling materials, being educated on furbearers in Missouri, and fishing! All the supplies are provided free of charge. 7th grade students should arrive at the middle school at 8:30am. The bus will leave school at 8:45am. We will arrive at the farm at 9:00am. We will depart from the farm and return to school by 1:30pm. Students will contact parents if we are returning to school early. Permission slips were sent home today with the students. (See the flyer below)

Here is a link to the school district calendar for the year. We have many fall activities coming up!

Our students have completed Exact Path diagnostic testing for 2nd semester. They assessed over English/Language Arts/Reading & Math. They are now focused on individual learning paths based on their own levels of mastery. The Exact Path program assigns them lessons and activities based on their individual levels on mastery. Each students should complete 14 competencies in English/Reading & Math over the course of the 2nd semester (standards in their current grade level). Have your students login at home and show you where they are on their grade level lessons and activities. (Edmentum Exact Path)

RTI teachers run missing assignment reports for their students. This process is a focus weekly. The students receive a weekly reward for NO missing assignments! Parents/Guardians can login at any time to see grades & assignments.

Grades.........D & F lists are looked at every week and the students receive a hard copy to bring home, have signed, and return to school. This procedure has been in place each week of the school year. You can see your students grades 24/7 by logging into (School Insight) Teacher Ease. If your son or daughter has a D and/or F in one of their classes they will have a form to return to school. For one reason or another sometimes these forms don't make it home. Please check on your students grade periodically, or as often as needed. Please do not wait until then to focus on your students in danger of failing grades. Our teachers can always be contacted, and want what's best for our students.

If any students have two or more failing grades we will have family discussions, and/or communication. Coaches are also running reports and keep track of their athletes. If any student-athletes have two or more failing grades they are not eligible to participate in contests. (See Student Handbook/MSHSSA regulations)

We will have on-site summer school this year! Specific Information to be released soon! Email Mrs. Lori Howerton for more information.

Middle School spring sports have begun. (See sports schedules below)

Character Word of the Month........March.........Perseverance Character Word of the Month........March.........Perseverance

March (Perseverance)

MARCH: PERSEVERANCE

Isn’t it an awesome feeling when you go to work on something and it comes so easily that you get it done right away? It always feels good to accomplish something. However, have you ever started working on a project that is difficult and really challenges you? Sometimes when you are working on tasks like this, you may even find yourself becoming frustrated, annoyed, or maybe you think about giving up. However, if you stick to it and you keep working at it, often times, you will be able to complete the task and it feels even better when you finish. This is what perseverance looks like. It’s not giving up when the going gets tough…having true GRIT!

You will experience many situations in life where you are going to be really awesome at something. Still, there are definitely times where you will also find yourself feeling challenged. The difference lies in your reaction. Will you give up and walk away, never knowing if you could do it? Or do you stick with it, struggle through and become a victor in the end when you persevere to accomplish something you didn’t know you were capable of?

I challenge you this month to stay the path, work hard and don’t give in on something that seems too difficult. Can you do it? Can you persevere? Of course you can – just don’t forget to push through to the end!

April (Courage)

APRIL: COURAGE

We all encounter times when we are faced with scary circumstances but we

do what is right, despite our fear. There are also moments when we are up

against a difficult challenge, but we try it anyway. This is what we call COURAGE. Courage is

standing up and doing something we think is right, even if it is hard to do.

Courage can be seen in many different situations. It could be standing up for a friend

who was getting bullied, helping someone in need, making a difficult decision, sticking up for

what you believe or facing a personal fear. Being courageous and standing up for what is right is

an important quality to have! It makes you a better person, a better student and a better

citizen.

This month, see if you can find a time to be courageous. Take a leap and face your fears

to do what you know is right!

“All our dreams can come true...if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney
