This Week's Scouting Report This Week's Scouting Report

Thursday, May 21, 2026 Thursday, May 21, 2026

Good afternoon, Glenwood families,

I can’t believe Memorial Day weekend is already here. With Election Day on Tuesday, our week has been shortened, but the days have certainly stayed busy. We continue to race through May, and the end of the school year will be here before we know it.

This week, our Band and Orchestra held their concerts at Springton Lake Middle School and showcased their talents to a packed audience of proud families. A special thank you to Mr. Bugosh and Mr. Walls for all of their work preparing our students for such a great performance.

Today, we celebrated our May birthdays during lunch with our Birthday Bash. We also held our PAW prize drawings, where 25 students won prizes. Unfortunately, the rain has forced us to postpone tomorrow’s Field Day. We have a busy calendar ahead, so please continue checking the information below to stay up to date on all upcoming events and activities.

Although the weather may not cooperate this Memorial Day weekend, I hope you enjoy the extra time with family and friends.

Best,

Josh Rehak, Principal

Note from the Office

FIELD DAY - MOVED TO THE AFTERNOON OF MAY 28th

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: We have made the difficult decision to postpone tomorrow’s Field Day. The forecast calls for rain throughout today, with additional rain possible tomorrow morning. Combined with temperatures around 60 degrees, we do not believe conditions will provide the positive and enjoyable experience we want for our students, staff, volunteers, and families.

Parents/guardians and families are invited to attend our Physical Education Field Day for children in grades 1-5 on Thursday afternoon May 28th. Activities will take place beginning approximately 12:30 pm and will end around 3:15 pm. More information to follow.

All visitors must sign in at the welcome table by the green shed near our loading area. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. Please also remember that we have limited parking on our campus and we encourage you to carpool if possible.

We ask that you ensure that children are equipped with hats or sunglasses and sneakers. Please apply sunscreen at home before arriving at school in the morning. We recommend cotton T-shirts rather than tank tops since there will be less exposure to the sun. Most students try to wear their team color-green or white. Water will be available, but we encourage children to bring their own refillable water bottle. We recommend that all bottles have the students first and last name on the bottle. Please, no sweet drinks since these attract bees!

Join the Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction

The Glenwood Elementary Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction is rolling right along! We’ve stacked up an amazing 592 FULL boxes of cereal so far! But wait… our dominoes aren’t done falling yet! We still need 908 more boxes to reach our BIG goal!

Help us keep the kindness tumbling by sending in cereal boxes next week. Every box helps feed local families and keeps our chain reaction going strong! Thank you for helping us crunch hunger one box at a time!

JUST LIKE THE CHARACTERS

Each week we will highlight anyone who has exemplified qualities similar to our Philly mascots, possessing the following:

GRITTY (Flyers Ice Hockey) Resilient with a ‘never give up’ attitude

FRANKLIN (76er's Basketball): Loyal friend

SWOOP (Eagles Football): Strong and determined

DETERMINED

Our Kindergarten classes held their "Carnival" last week... students visited various stations and played games. Our Kindergarten teachers are so clever and DETERMINED to make learning fun... our young learners reported that they had the best day - and didn't even have to do any work! (shhhhh... they didn't realize they spent their entire school day READING!!!) We are lucky to have such creative and dedicated teachers!

5th Grade News

Our 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Penncrest High School. We are excited to celebrate our 5th graders as they prepare for this important transition.

Due to the large size of this year’s class, some procedures will look different from past years:

  • Students should report to Glenwood at the start of the regular school day.
  • Students should dress appropriately for this special occasion.
  • Buses will transport Glenwood students from GES to Penncrest High School.
  • Students should not report directly to Penncrest High School, as there are logistics and preparations that need to take place prior to the ceremony.
  • Parents and guests should report directly to Penncrest High School.
  • Doors will open at 10:00 a.m.
  • Because of venue capacity, each family may bring up to 6 guests.
  • Please know that it is a school day for PHS, so parking is limited. Please carpool if possible.
  • Please use the larger parking lot closest to the Van Leer Avenue entrance.
  • Enter through the Auditorium doors by the Lions statue

Following the ceremony, all students will be required to board the buses back to Glenwood. Students will not be permitted to be dismissed directly from Penncrest High School. Parents may meet students at Glenwood and officially sign them out from their classroom teacher.

To help streamline dismissal procedures, please complete the Early Dismissal Form - 5th Grade Recognition by Monday, June 8th to proactively collect information for students who will be leaving early that day.

Families will also have the opportunity to visit the 5th grade hallway, which will be decorated by our 5th Grade Committee in honor of our students and their accomplishments.

We look forward to celebrating this milestone together.

5th Grade Clap Out Opportunity

As a final goodbye to their Glenwood chapter, families are cordially invited to attend the 5th Grade Clap Out on Friday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. Visitors will sign in outside and gather along the main hallway as the classes parade through the building one last time.

We look forward to some great closing activities for our rising 5th graders.
