Featured Story: LSHS Commencement Ceremony
Congratulations Class of 2026!
๐๐จโ๐๐ฉโ๐ Lake Shore High School celebrated its 103rd commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 30th, 2026, conferring requirements on 202 graduates.
๐ A digital copy of the ceremony program is available here: https://www.lakeshoreschools.org/common/pages/GetFile.ashx?key=sb%2bUAdpB
๐ถ The event featured a stirring bagpipe processional, heartfelt reflections from student and staff speakers, and moving performances by our choir and band. All graduates wore matching red gowns with white arm stripes this yearโa symbol of unity.
๐ซ Each graduate invited a special Lake Shore staff VIPโsomeone who made a meaningful impact on their educational journey. These VIPs were seated in a reserved field section, where they could exchange hugs, high fives, fist bumps, or waves with their honored students.
๐ค This yearโs keynote speaker is Janelle Reiff. Janelle graduated from LSHS in 2019. Since then, she has gone on to graduate from Western Michigan University and is currently serving as the reigning Ms. St. Clair Shores.
๐ Student Congress Vice President Abby Smith, along with seniors Gavin Snarski and Collin Taylor, were invited to speak during the ceremony.
Abby reminded the Class of 2026 that no matter where life takes them next, they should strive to leave every place better.
Third-generation graduate Gavin reflected on the personal challenge of losing his father during his sophomore year, sharing that even life-changing hardships should never keep someone from pursuing their dreams.
Collin encouraged his classmates to embrace life to the fullest and continue lifting others up, just as he has always done through his positivity and kindness.
๐ฌ โFor 103 years, the Lake Shore community has trusted us to educate their children,โ said Lake Shore High School Principal Dr. Janelle Bross. โIt is not a commitment we take lightly. Graduation is the culmination of years of hard work from students as well as teachers and families. This year and every year is a celebration for not just the students, but the entire community as well.โ

Teacher Mr. Carney shared heartfelt congratulations as each graduate was honored for their achievements. The ceremony featured the classic Pomp and Circumstance processional, moving performances by the Womenโs Chamber Choir, and memorable speeches from staff and students. A special slideshow by Carsyn Allen captured the highlights and favorite memories of the year.
Superintendent Dr. DiPonio shared, "When it comes to what it means to overcome challenges, to really be the heart and soul of an institution, I think what we see here with this commencement, what your children have done, is something that is inspiring to all of us." He went on to list several P2 character strengths and explained that these students, both graduates and Senior leaders, are everything we need in the world.
Principal Dr. Bross officially performed the tassel ceremony, declaring these students are graduates of Lake Shore High School, symbolized by the moving of the tassel from right to left.
Our students looked stunning in their graduation regalia as they celebrated this unforgettable day with staff, friends, and family in the Lake Shore High School auditorium. This ceremony is a powerful reminder of the strength and potential within every student.
Huge congratulations to Bryce Euring, Gabriel Keyes, Christopher Lambert, and Alonte Wuopio โ weโre so proud of you!

Inspiration
Honoring a Legacy: Remembering Bob Stewart
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Robert Stewart, Senior Photographer and original owner of Stewart Fine Portraits.
For decades, Stewart Fine Portraits has been a meaningful part of the Lake Shore family. The Stewart family has been capturing Lake Shore High School senior portraits and district photos since at the 1962, creating memories that generations of students and families have treasured.
Bob and Mary later passed the business on to their son, Cliff, and his wife, Donna, continuing a tradition of service and dedication. The Stewart family has consistently gone above and beyond for our schools and teams, providing quality work and dependable support. A walk through the Lake Shore High School commons showcases the impact of their work, proudly highlighting our school spirit and generations of Shorians that have walked our hallways. Bob was a kind and generous man, a pillar of the St. Clair Shores community, and an honorary Shorian. His son Cliff has carried on that tradition.
We are grateful for Bob Stewart's commitment, talent, and partnership throughout the years. His love of photography and his support of Lake Shore have left a lasting mark on our district and community.
Our thoughts are with the Stewart family and all who knew and loved Bob.
A Gift That Strikes a Chord
Music is the voice of the soul.
The Lake Shore community is grateful for the generous donation of a Baldwin Baby Grand Piano from Carol Weber Carroll, a proud member of the Class of 1953. The Lake Shore Board of Education formally recognized her thoughtful gift during its monthly board meeting.
At 91 years young, Carol marked the special occasion by playing the timeless What a Wonderful World โ a fitting choice that beautifully reflected the moment and the impact of her generosity.
Carol is also the mother of Lake Shore teacher Colleen Tharme and the aunt of Mark Deldin, a Lake Shore graduate from the Class of 1975, continuing a meaningful family connection to the district that spans generations.
Lake Shore High School and Kennedy Middle School Bands returned for a special live performance at Veterans Memorial Park for Shorian Spectacular, an evening of music as a prelude to Music on the Lake. It was incredible!
Bonus: Our Sound. Our Spirit. Our Parade. Lake Shore. Thanks for representing our district at the SCS Memorial Parade!
Military Appreciation Month
May is designated as Military Appreciation Month, making it the perfect time to honor and celebrate. We would like to recognize the following Class of 2026 Seniors at Lake Shore High School for the bravery it takes to say, โI will serve.โ
- Ethan Garcia - Air Force
- Arien Giannetti - Marines
- Donovan Kidd - Army
- Aliyah Rach - Air National Guard
- Onesius Taylor - Army
Thank you for your dedication to protecting and serving our nation. We are grateful for the Lake Shore students who choose to enlist in the armed services, understanding that it means time away from loved ones, sacrifices, and facing countless challenges.
Whether youโre in uniform or not, whether youโre serving across the globe or just down the street, you will always be a Shorian in our eyes. We will never forget your service.
Bonus: Mrs. Holtz arranged for a group of Civil War reenactors to visit Kennedy Middle School, giving 8th grade students an immersive look into life during the Civil War era. Students learned about everything from clothing, food, camping, marching, and military drills to battle tactics. The reenactors also demonstrated how wooden muskets were used, bringing history to life through hands-on learning and live demonstrations.
A Heroโs Homecoming
Land of the free, because of the brave.
This Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We also recognize the service, dedication, and sacrifices made every day by members of our armed forces and their families to help preserve the freedoms we cherish.
We want to share a heartwarming story that highlights the sacrifices our military families make and the special moments that remind us why service means so much.
At 1:30 p.m. last Tuesday, Luke Stackpoole, a 5th grade student at Violet Elementary, was about to experience a surprise he would never forget. With thoughtful planning and collaboration between Lukeโs mom and dad, Kevin (shoutout LSHS Class of 1998 grad!), Kelley Stackpoole, and Mrs. Foster, Dean of Students, a very special guest was about to walk through the classroom door.
- Video clip of surprise visit: https://x.com/myLSPS/status/2056814944637649257
Alyssa Stackpoole is Lukeโs big sister and an important part of his life. Alyssa had been stationed overseas in Kuwait since September while serving in the Air Force. She is now a part of the active guard stationed at Selfridge, finally able to return home for a heartwarming reunion. Luke & Alyssa also have another amazing sister, Colleen Stackpoole, who is a student at Kennedy Middle School. Later in the day, Alyssa made a second stop to surprise her, too!
Luke and Colleen had no idea what was waiting for them. The moment Alyssa walked into the classrooms, the joy and surprise on their faces said it all. It was an emotional and unforgettable reunion โ one that served as a powerful reminder of the commitment, sacrifice, and dedication military families experience every day.
Mrs. Foster reflected, โIt is an honor to be a part of such a joyful moment in one of our family's lives. We are happy to provide opportunities that create lasting memories.โ
Thank you, Alyssa, for your commitment to serving and protecting our nation. We are grateful when students choose to serve in our armed forces, knowing that path requires time away from home and family, perseverance, sacrifice, and strength. You are forever a hero, and you continue to make us all proud.

Mackinac Memories & Meaningful Impact
๐ Our 4th graders from Masonic Heights Elementary, Rodgers Elementary, and Violet Elementary had an unforgettable adventure on their field trip to Mackinac!
The 92 students (up 29 from last year!) explored Fort Michilimackinac, toured Hartwick Pines, rode Sheplerโs Ferry, dined at Mission Point, and took in the sights with a downtown scavenger hunt, visits to the Mackinac Art Museum and Marquette Park, and even a carriage ride!
With its rich history, breathtaking scenery, and one-of-a-kind car-free atmosphere, Mackinac Island gave Rodgers Elementary students an unforgettable hands-on learning experience filled with adventure, discovery, and lasting memories. A few students shared some of their favorite moments from the trip:
- Jayden Rosario โ โI loved walking down Market Street with my friends and tasting the fudge! I also liked rooming with people Iโd never roomed with before because I made new friends.โ
- Aubrey Bemus โ โOn the last night, a big group of us went ghost hunting in a haunted theater! We were looking for a ghost named Harvey who supposedly pinches people. While we were inside the empty theater, bells started ringing and the lights turned on by themselves!โ
- Amelia Duchateau โ โI liked visiting the fort and seeing all the cool things there, especially watching the cannon firing. And of course, eating fudge โ my favorite was caramel macchiato flavor!โ
- Mackenzie Beafore โ โI really enjoyed the horse carriage rides and getting to pet the horses. I also liked watching the cannons go off. I only halfway covered my ears because it wasnโt as loud as I thought it would be!โ
- Natalie Grosch โ โI really liked the forts! My favorite part was seeing what the houses looked like, especially the kidsโ rooms. I also liked learning about how doctors cared for sick people back then in the hospital video. The carriage ride was really fun too โ I got to pet one of the horses!โ
Our teacher chaperones also enjoyed the trip. Ms. Rhadigan reflected, "Returning to Mackinac Island for a second year gave me a whole new appreciation for the experience. Even with the cold temperatures, rain, and a fairly bumpy ferry ride across the choppy water, our group never lost our excitement or sense of wonder. There was something memorable about experiencing the island in less-than-perfect weather; it made the warmth of the studentsโ enthusiasm, the islandโs rich history, and the natural beauty stand out even more. From the misty shoreline views to the clip-clop of horses through town, Mackinac still felt as magical and inspiring as ever. Watching students explore, laugh, learn, and make memories together reminded me that sometimes the best trips are not the easiest onesโbut the ones that bring people together through the adventure."
Weโre so proud to give our students these hands-on opportunities that bring classroom lessons to life. We overheard a parent say, 'My daughter made some great new friends โ and grew even closer to her old ones!'
Bonus: Back home at school, one of Mrs. Sprietโs 3rd grade students at Masonic Heights turned a thoughtful idea into a lasting addition to the playground.
Vita noticed the playground needed more shade and took action. She first approached Principal Mr. Barranca with her idea to plant a tree and asked if she could gather signatures of support from students and staff. From there, she worked hard to write a letter requesting a donation from a local company to help make the project possible.
Thanks to Vitaโs determination, the new tree was planted, creating shade and a special legacy for future students to enjoy for years to come.
The great outdoorsโฆ what a great place to be. ๐ณโ๏ธ
Elementary Field Days
Our elementary students celebrated the end of the school year by participating in Field Day events. To have a field day means to get a lot of pleasure and enjoyment from doing something; We are certain this was a true expression this past Friday for our Tigers and Rockets; All-Stars will host their Field Day next Friday!
Although students were excited to earn the W in so many activities like Flying Shoes, Fill-It-Up Relay, Soccer Shot, Bean Bag Cornhole, Javelin Throw, Football Toss, Dizzy Bat Races, Sack Races, Long Jump, 50yd Dash, and Disc Golf, they were also rewarded with hugs and high fives from their friends for effort. Good sportsmanship always wins.
In addition to traditional field day events, STEAM activities were also part of the fun. These activities included Straw Rockets, Lego Marble Run, Paper Airplanes, Cup Stacking, Styrofoam and Toothpick Building, Community Circles, Bubble Wands, and Aluminum Foil Boats.
It is wonderful to see so many LSHS student-athletes and volunteer parents assisting with the activities! Thank you to Mrs. Pecoraro, Mr. Brosnan, and Mr. Warrick for making these special days for our students!
From sack races to STEAM stations, hugs to high-fives, our elementary students wrapped up the year with fun, friendship, and unforgettable memories.
Celebration
Carnations, Memories, and Milestones for the Class of 2026
Lake Shore Public Schools proudly celebrates the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 as they step forward into the world as future leaders.
In honor of their journey, we have celebrated this outstanding class with a variety of recognitions: aerial photos featuring our 26 buses, personalized lawn signs along 13 Mile Road, graduatesโ names displayed on marquees at every building and on the stadiumโs big screen, special social media tributes, postcard mailings, a Senior video and walk, a memorable Honors Ceremony, prom celebrations, scholarship announcements, Meet at the 50, and the much-anticipated commencement ceremony!
The lawn sign is an announcement to the entire community that a graduate lives here. It means this senior has earned at least 22 credits and has successfully completed 13 years of school. It is a symbol for the late night study sessions, athletic competitions, and/or bonds with forever friends. More importantly, it is a statement that the child has Lake Shore blood.
Students participated in a heartfelt tradition by visiting Lake Shore High School, Kennedy Middle School, Masonic Heights Elementary, Rodgers Elementary, and Violet Elementary. Each senior carried a carnation to gift to a staff member who had made a meaningful impact on their life.
๐ Video clip: https://x.com/myLSPS/status/2060030164034031868
Senior Jayvon Jernigan presented his flower to Chris Mantela, sharing that since freshman year, he has continually encouraged him to strive for excellence both academically and on the track, while always offering guidance and support along the way. Senior Mekhi Curry gave his flower to Mrs. Shannon in appreciation for her constant support, sharing that she has always been there to help him both in and out of school, especially during the holidays.
We even spotted a few seniors sharing special moments with their younger siblingsโlike senior Isabell Wells embracing her nephew, Michael Zemens, at Masonic Heights.
Throughout their educational journey, our staff has instilled lessons of courage, dedication, and compassion. Their unwavering support has made a lasting difference.
It is truly a great day to be a Shorian!
