A HUGE shout-out to the 10 fifth grade students who spent the entire year reading great books with me! It was an absolute pleasure to listen to these brilliant thinkers share their ideas and interpretations of a wide variety of literature - both fiction & nonfiction! I can say without reservation that working with these students was not only a privilege, but it was the highlight of my whole year!

Cool Collaborations!

The 4th quarter continued to be busy with teacher-librarian collaborations! Highlights included my work to help 4th grade with their annual Wax Museum, presenting an OverDrive eBook review to both sections of 7th grade ELA after acquiring a copy of their assigned book, Patina by Jason Reynolds, and working with 2nd grade on their fractured fairy tales unit. Please click here to view my complete collaboration log.

Summer Plans! Summer Plans!

This summer I have been chosen to be the regional elementary representative at the Summer Institute in Syracuse, where select librarians from across NY will work with Barbara Stripling to unveil the 2019 IFC Reimagined. In the Fall, Kerri Burch, Maureen Squire, and I will provide PD based on what we learned to the rest of the school librarians in our area.

I will also be working on creating a new 8th grade research elective for Fall 2019. I am hoping to weave in elements from the revised IFC, Library of Congress, Opposing Viewpoints, and their core content area curriculum to develop a rigorous and enriching experience that will help prepare participants to excel wherever they opt to go for high school in 2020. I have already started working with ELA & SS teachers at area high schools to gather their input to ensure this course will be relevant and valuable.
