What's Happening at Woodside?
Citizenship Assemblies
Most of our elementary students (first and fifth were on a field trip) enjoyed their last assembly to celebrate positive behaviors, attendance, English Learner progress, and academic progress! Teachers looked for students that show respect to others, follow rules and takes responsibility, help their community, takes care of their environment, and stands up for what is right to recognize with their Citizenship Awards. We also started sharing the iReady Stretch Growth awards. With some students still finishing their iReady assessments, several students will get this recognition in their classrooms in the coming days! Way to go, Cougars!

Bullying, Tobacco, and Substance Use Prevention
This week our students engaged with members from our SJUSD's Prevention and SAFE Schools Departments at lunch with tables of activities and information in the Quad. Our Seventh Graders also had a presentation from Casa Roble students to learn more!
Third Grade Herb Feast!
Utilizing herbs and vegetables harvested from our Woodside Garden and Outdoor Learning Space, our third grade classes celebrated by preparing and eating an assorted menu of items! Each of the classes had different harvests (herbs, vegetables) and had chosen different foods to prepare. It was exciting to see so many volunteers coming in to support the student learning and make the celebration a success!
Coming This Week at Woodside...
Why do we celebrate Memorial Day?
Memorial Day is a special day in the United States to honor and remember the brave men and women who died while serving in the military. It began after the Civil War, when people started placing flowers on the graves of soldiers to show respect and gratitude for their sacrifice.
Originally called "Decoration Day," it became a national holiday in 1971 and is now observed on the last Monday in May. Many people celebrate by visiting cemeteries, attending parades, or having moments of silence to remember those who gave their lives for our country.
Memorial Day is not just the start of summer—it’s a time to reflect on the courage and dedication of our heroes.
Middle School Positive Behavior Field Trip to Sunsplash!
This trimester students who have maintained 95 merits and not been suspended have the opportunity to attend a field trip to Sunsplash on Wednesday! We look forward to a great time with the students and volunteers that are joining. Students staying on campus will have study skills and classroom lessons. Congratulations on your hard work, Cougars!
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Thank you to seventh grade teacher Ms. Pfarr for our "Celebrating Diversity at Woodside" Bulletin Board this month! We celebrate and honor the history, culture, and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. From artists and inventors to leaders and everyday heroes, AAPI individuals have helped shape our country in many important ways. This is a time to learn about and appreciate the many different cultures, languages, traditions, and stories that make up the AAPI community.
