Hour of Code & NEW Coding Apps

Hour of Code was a big success! We had students at all grade levels coding last week. It was so wonderful to see their excitement each time they wrote a successful series of codes. If you'd like to share resources with your students and their families, please direct them to code.org.

I am also pleased to announce that we now have coding apps available on all of our iPads!

Kindergarten - Kodable

First Grade - The Foos & ScratchJr

Second Grade - The Foos & ScratchJr

Carts - The Foos, ScratchJr, & Swift Playgrounds

If you would like any instruction on these apps, please email me!

PARCC Sample Test Items

Last week, PARCC released a series of sample items from the 2015-16 assessments for grades 3-8. The test items are actual questions from last year's assessments. The released items represent approximately one full test per grade level, for both English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics. Please click here to access the test sets, answer keys, scoring rubrics, and sample student responses.

Digital Intelligence

The picture below illustrates the 8 interconnected areas of Digital Intelligence (or "DQ"). As educators and leaders, it is important to prepare children for the digital age. To read more about Digital Intelligence, check out this article by World Economic Forum. Click here to read about a plan for teaching these areas to our students.
