Wolverine WeeklyUpdatesWeek of December 8-12, 2025

A Message from Mrs. Ushery A Message from Mrs. Ushery

Greetings Parents and Families,

We had another great week of teaching and learning at Wynbrooke! I want to give a special shout-out to Mr. Brown and all of the team members who supported our Winter Holiday Program. Our scholars did an outstanding job—I am so proud of their hard work and wonderful performances!

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Coffee and Conversations session last Thursday on How to Help Your Child Increase Their Lexile Levels. We appreciate your partnership and engagement.

This week, we will conclude Benchmark #2 Testing with Science on Monday, 8th. Winter MAP Testing will begin on December 9–15. Please see the parent letters below.

  • Benchmark Testing (1–5): Measures students’ mastery of grade-level standards in Math, ELA, Science and Social Studies.

  • MAP Testing (K-5): A universal assessment given three times a year that provides a clear picture of your child’s academic strengths and areas for support across Reading, Math, Language Usage and Science.

It is essential that our scholars are present each day so we can accurately measure their progress and plan for the support they need to thrive.

We also look forward to hosting our Family Literacy Night on Wednesday, December 8, 2025 from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Let’s continue promoting a love for reading in our children. Please make sure they are reading at least 20 minutes each night to build strong reading habits and increase their Lexiles.

SAVE THE DATE: In January, we will be hosting mandatory GA Milestones parent information sessions for all parents of students in grades 3-5. Please make plans to attend one of the session as we work together to prepare our students for success.

January 13th - 5:00 - 6:00 pm

January 14th - 8:00 - 9:00 am

January 15th - 5:00 - 6:00 pm

More information is forthcoming.

Quick Reminders:

  • Morning drop-off and afternoon pickup is at the front of the building.

  • Announcements begin at 7:40 a.m. daily.

  • Instruction begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. daily.

  • School uniforms must be worn every day.

  • Encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes each night and ensure they know their Lexile level. Reading books just above their Lexile helps stretch their learning. Use this link to check book levels: Find a Book

We’re ready for another great week ahead—One Team. One Goal. All In!

Proud to be your Principal,

Mrs. Devetra Ushery

School Safety is top of mind for me, teachers and staff, and I know for you as well.

Every precaution will be be taken to ensure the safety of your child during school hours. One safety measure practiced are safety drills (fire, tornado, and intruder), which are conducted throughout the school year. Fire drills are held once every month. Tornado drills are held twice a semester, Intruder (Lockdown) drills are held three times a semester. Schedules, exits, and procedures are a part of these important drills to keep our students and staff safe in the event of an emergency. The administrative team and all staff members will be in position to aid in a safe, quick evacuation. Routes of exit are posted in each room of the building. Our number one priority is the safety and security of students and staff.

During the school day, we ensure the following safety measures are taken:

  • All classroom doors remain closed and locked at all times.
  • Exterior doors remain locked at all times and are not propped open for any reason.
  • Exterior doors will not be opened for visitors.
  • All visitors must come to the front of the school to receive assistance.
  • All visitors must press the entry button outside the front door and show photo identification. The front office staff will assist all visitors from this point.
  • If a visitor does not have an appointment with staff, is not checking out a student, or is not receiving assistance from the front office, they will not be allowed inside the school.
  • If parents would like to drop off items for their child, they will utilize the black cart in the front door and complete the new drop off slip. Front office staff will retrieve the items off the cart and ensure your child receives the item.
  • Students are monitored by staff members in all areas of the building, on the playgrounds, and the blacktop.
  • Outside of traveling with their class to other parts of the building, students will travel in pairs when leaving their class independently to go to the restroom, nurse, or front office.
  • Every classroom is equipped with a telephone and a call button in the event of an emergency.
  • For afternoon dismissal, students are only dismissed from when their name appears on the dismissal spreadsheet and/or their bus is called.
  • Staff are strategically stationed throughout the building and campus to ensure students arrive and depart safely from school.
  • Each staff member at Wynbrooke will also have a crisis alert badge that they will wear daily. In the event of an emergency, staff will press a button on this gadget to alert administration that they are in need of help or assistance.

This is the second year elementary schools will have Campus Security Associates on daily. Mrs. Shana Favors serves as the CSA for Wynbrooke Traditional Theme School. In addition to Mrs. Favors, our cluster school resource officer, Officer Davis, does stop by the school on a consistent basis and walks the building and grounds to ensure that order is maintained.

In the event of an emergency, we will communicate with all parents via School Messenger. Please be sure you are connected and signed up on your mobile phone. It is important that parents read all messages from the school thoroughly and follow next steps as outlined.

Safety will always remain our top priority. We appreciate your partnership and collaboration as we work together to maintain a safe learning environment for all students and staff.

It is that time of year again when the Library has lots going on:

First, it’s time for our annual Pumpkin Book Character Contest! Students are invited to show their creativity by decorating a plastic or foam pumpkin (no real pumpkins, please!) to look like their favorite book character.

How to Participate:

  1. Choose your favorite book character.

  2. Decorate a plastic foam pumpkin to look like that character.

  3. Complete the registration form from the library.

  4. Bring in your decorated pumpkin and form by Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Our faculty will vote anonymously to select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners! We can’t wait to see the amazing and imaginative pumpkins our Wynbrooke students create. Thank you for helping your child celebrate reading in such a fun way!

Secondly, our Scholastic Book Fair! This exciting event gives students the chance to explore new stories, discover favorite authors, and build their own home libraries.

Book Fair Dates:
📅 Saturday, October 25 – Friday, October 31, 2025
📍 Location: Wynbrooke Traditional Theme School

We’ll kick off the fun with a special Family Event on Saturday, October 25 during the Fall Festival, so come shop early and enjoy the celebration!

The eWallet is the easiest way for your child to shop. It’s a safe, cash-free digital account that friends and family can add funds to. You can also choose to contribute to “Share the Fair,” a giving program that helps ensure every Wynbrooke student can choose a book of their own.
