THE BEAR ESSENTIALS
Week of February 2, 2026
Hello Bear Families,
This week, students (grades 9-11) will be participating in Progress Learning testing (formally Horizon). These assessments are important because they help teachers and school staff understand how students are progressing academically. The results allow us to identify strengths, address areas where students may need extra support, and make informed decisions to support better learning in the classroom. We encourage students to take their time, stay focused, and do their best.
We are also excited to remind families about our Snow Ball Dance, which will take place on Saturday, February 7, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. This is a semi-formal event. Tickets will be on sale during lunch and after school in the commons from February 2 through February 6, 2026. The cost of a ticket is $15.00. We look forward to a fun and memorable evening for our students. Donations for concessions are also being accepted and greatly appreciated.
We are still in need of a few items and would greatly appreciate any support:
15 two-liter bottles of pop
2 cases of water
3–4 large bags of popped popcorn
2–3 large trays of cookies
Go Bears!
Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Hickey, Mrs. Bukosky, Mr. Petrick, and Mr. Schley
Cell Phones
As we begin a new semester, we want to remind students and parents about our expectations when it comes to cell phones. At RHS, students are allowed to have their cell phones, but they may not have them out during class time. Phones are to be out of sight and put away during learning. We know that phones can be a huge distraction to kids and we want to eliminate that barrier to learning.
We have spoken to students about this and could really use parental support. Parents, please speak to your student about keeping their phone away during class time. They can check it during passing time, before school, after school, or at lunch.
Your help with this can go a long way. We are already seeing huge strides made academically by both individual students and classrooms. We look forward to continued growth.

Progress Learning Test for Grades 9-11
RHS will be conducting our winter Progress Learning test for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Progress Learning is the testing platform used at RHS to monitor student growth as well as prepare for state-mandated tests that occur in the spring. If you recall, our students also took a form of this test in the fall.
The Progress Learning platform allows our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students to take a test modeled after College Board’s PSAT 9, PSAT 10, and SAT tests. These tests mimic the state tests in number of questions, types of questions, timing, and digital format. We feel this is a big advantage to have our students go through this experience before the official tests in the spring. It also allows teachers and students to monitor growth.
Students that are testing can take some simple steps to prepare for their best possible performance on this test. Please remember the following steps to be ready for test day…
- Get a good night’s rest.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
- Make sure that your Chromebook is fully charged for test day and do a full restart either Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
- Be prepared to power off your cell phone and keep it put away during testing.
- Give your best effort.
All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students are encouraged to arrive at school by 7:50 am on test day. This will allow students time to get to their testing location by 8:00 am. Test room assignments for students are posted outside of the principal’s office and in the cafeteria.
12th grade students have a late arrival on test day. Seniors should arrive at RHS between 10:20 and 10:30 am on test day. Seniors should report directly to the cafeteria.
Testing will last until approximately 10:30 am. Students will have an alternative bell schedule for the remainder of the day.

A message from Officer Cole:
Sometimes it feels like teens speak an entirely foreign language. The words, phrases, and emojis commonly used by teens can be confusing to those who do not spend significant time in online spaces. The following link provides helpful insight into this evolving digital language and can assist in increasing overall awareness and safety.
