Week 4
September 1 - 5, 2025
Message from the Principal
Thank you parents and families for a successful Back to School night. I hope you were able to see the wonderful classrooms the teachers built for our students (each with a calming corner) and hear about all the amazing things they will be learning this year.
This will be a year of growing, not only academically but also socially and emotionally, as we continue to support the whole child. Together, we have the opportunity to build a community where every student thrives. To make this possible, we all play an important role. When each of us pulls our weight and works in partnership, our children experience the very best of what school can offer.
I look forward to a year filled with curiosity, resilience, and achievement. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making this a great year for all.
To thank all of our families and students for their engagement, this week we will be sending students home with a brand new, class colored t-shirt! Students can wear the shirt whenever they would like, BUT we will be requesting that students wear it especially on field trip day as it helps teachers and chaperone quickly identify our students in a group. So please keep your shirt safe!
Every School Safe Blueprint
Los Angeles Unified is committed to providing every student in our District with a safe learning environment. As a part of the Every School Safe: Blueprint for Safety, throughout the 2025-2026 school year, students will be taught strategies to help them recognize concerns and how to ask for help. Students throughout LAUSD will participate in the seven (7) presentations during assemblies.
I will present these at the Coffee with the Principals BUT I will also link the videos here on our newsletter for parents who are not able to attend the meeting. Videos will be linked during each respective "coffee" meeting week.
For the month of September we will focus on the Integrated Safe School Plan. Students will learn how to stay safe during an emergency. For our next Coffee with the Principal, I will also share the district's new Budget Transparency Tool.
Grandparents Day
Postponed
I sent out a Blackboard Connect Ed last week, but I wanted to put this here as this coming Friday is Grandparents Day. Our annual Grandparents Day celebration has grown substantially, so we know how important this day is for our community. However, given the huge turnout every year, our current heat wave situation, and our small Multipurpose room, I have no choice but to postpone the event until the weather gets better.
I understand this announcement might be disappointing. Please know that we fully intend to host a Grandparents Day event. But we want to make sure it's comfortable and not a health risk to anyone involved. A new date is forthcoming. Thank you for your understanding and helping us relay this message to all of our amazing grandparents!
Fall Fundraiser
September 2 - September 16, 2025
During Back to School night you should have picked up our Fall Fundraiser packet. If you missed Back to School night, your child's teacher will send it home with your child on Tuesday.
This fundraiser supports all the students in our school! LAUSD does not provide funds for all the wonderful incentives and programs happening on our campus. A lot of our "extras" have been funded through fundraisers, donation, sponsorship or grants awarded.
Through this fundraiser, Multnomah will get 40% of whatever your sale total may be. So if each student sells at least one item, that will give us a minimum of $1,252. But I know we can do better than that! So I thank you in advance for your support of this fundraiser.
As soon as the sale is over, items are delivered to the school within 1-2 weeks, with student prizes included and ready for pick up in a grab-and-go. Top seller gets the incremental prizes as well as $100!
If you would rather provide a donation to the school instead of selling products, donation checks can be written out to Multnomah Street School. You can dictate under memo how you would like us to spend your donated money. For example: field trip admission, student incentives, attendance recognition, etc. We will send you a tax-deductible donation letter in exchange for your donation check.
Lockdown Drill
Our hearts are heavy as we reflect on the recent tragedy in Minneapolis. Moments like these remind us how deeply important it is to come together as a community, to care for one another, and to reaffirm our commitment to keeping every child safe.
Please know that the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority. This is why we continue to practice our lockdown drills. In the event of an emergency, our students and staff will know how to respond calmly and safely. Along with these drills, we are taking every step possible through strong safety measures, caring relationships, and open communication to ensure that our school remains a place where children feel secure, supported, and ready to learn.
We will continue to listen, learn, and work together so that every student can thrive in both heart and mind. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for partnering with us to build a safe, nurturing environment for all.
Beyond the Bell
Thank you for everyone's patience with getting your child into the Beyond the Bell program. By now, everyone is wants to be enrolled, should be enrolled. Please continue to keep Coach Claudia's contact handy in the event you need to contact her for any reason. Thank you.
Photo Release Form
These forms were due on August 22nd. If you have not turned them in, please do so asap. We need permission to use your child's photo on Instagram (group photos), Class Dojo and our school yearbook. If you do not want your child feature in any platform, please turn in the form and note that you've read it and are NOT authorizing permission. This way, when we take group photos for the yearbook, or other photos in class, we can continue to respect your wishes by not taking their photos, cropping them out or covering them with an emoji.
I do make Youtube highlight videos of events happening on our campus, however, know that I always have the setting set to unlisted and I only provide the links to you here through our newsletter, like our college highlight video. 🙂
Parent Workshop
Last week Ms. Maciel hosted our first PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports/Restorative Practices) workshop in the Parent Center. We had a great turnout! If you're available, this is a great way to get resources on an important topic, but also build community and make some new friends with fellow eagle parents.
Parent Volunteers
If you haven't already, please complete the parent volunteer application! Parents may not volunteer on campus or on a field trip in any capacity without having been processed as a parent volunteer via the LAUSD volunteer app portal. It takes 4-6 weeks to get processed and there's also a mandatory training. Don't wait.
Please see flyer here on ways you can be an active parent this year!
Heat Advisory
We will continue to monitor and pivot for indoor/outdoor recess as the heat wave continues. While we want students to run freely and play, extreme heat can quickly lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or illness, and we want to ensure every child is safe, comfortable, and ready to learn. Thank you for your understanding as we take these precautions.
Continue to have students bring a light sweater as we are very thankful the air conditioning in our classrooms are working really well. And continue to have students bring their refillable water bottles.

September Calendar
You should have picked up a September calendar at Back to School night. Click on the calendar image for the PDF. Please hang it up somewhere so you don't miss out on everything happening at Magnificent Multnomah!
College/Career Banner Photos
We are officially launching our College and/or Career Awareness Campaign. We would like to feature your child on a college banner to hang outside or inside of our beautiful campus.
On picture day, interested students will wear:
Option 1: Their self-selected and self-provided college sweatshirt or t-shirts, and bring any college themed props. (Pennants, pom-poms, notebooks, stuffed animals, etc.)
Option 2: Their self-selected and self-provided future work or career aspirations. (Props and school-safe tools from the job or trade welcomed to support visual of theme.)
Our professional photographer will be on site to photograph your child. If you would like your child to be a part of our College/Career Awareness Campaign, fill out the interest form by Friday, September 12th and make sure your child is camera-ready on Wednesday, September 17th. There will not be a make-up picture day. This is a great opportunity to speak to your child about their future college or career aspirations!
Check out our highlight reel from last year.
iReady Challenge
This year we will be hosting monthly iReady challenges. In addition to academic growth, students will have an opportunity to earn prizes!
We are strongly encouraging all of our students to log 50 minutes of reading and 50 minutes of math on the iReady platform each week. Lessons on the platform are connected to grade level goals and standards. While teachers are having students log on during small group time in class, parents should log in each evening to check if students are meeting their goals, and most importantly, scoring 80% or better on the task. We don't want them to just do the work. We want to know that they "get it!"
Mrs. Gonzalez, our intervention coordinator, is checking Monday following each week to see if students have met their weekly goals. For example, for the week of September 1-7, Mrs. Gonzalez will check Monday, September 8th at 8:00 am to see if students have met their 50 minutes for reading and 50 minutes for math the week prior. She will make a note on her excel worksheet that has all the teachers and student rosters.
For students to have meet the iReady Challenge for the month of September, they will have to meet the following goals each week:
- September 1-7, 50 minutes reading, 50 minutes math
- September 8-14, 50 minutes reading, 50 minutes math
- September 15-21, 50 minutes reading, 50 minutes math
- September 22-28, 50 minutes reading, 50 minutes math
- September 29-30, 20 minutes reading, 20 minutes math
Students log into iReady through Schoology. Students two options:
- To complete work on MYPATH (assignment connected to their diagnostic results)
- To complete ASSIGNMENTS assigned by their teachers (connected to what they are being taught in class)
1. Visit lms.lausd.net
2. Student log in.
3. Click on waffle on upper right hand corner.
4. Select iReady.
5. Select Reading or Math.
6. Complete the tasks: Assignments or My Path.
