Deer Hill's Class Placement Process: Deer Hill's class placement process for entering grade 4 and grade 5 students has informally begun. More formal planning will begin after break where staff will have multiple meetings spanning several days to build thoughtful class cohorts. Please see this placement letter (updated from last year) which outlines our process in greater detail, including the role of families.

Grade 5 Transition to Cohasset Middle School: Recently grade 5 families received a letter from John Mills, principal of Cohasset Middle School, that details important dates as students make the transition to 6th grade. Here is a copy of that letter for your reference.

Favorites Art Night: A beloved event for many years, Favorites Art Night is a celebration of every Deer Hill artist that ends with the unveiling of the 5th grade class mosaic (it even featured two tiles of Hugo!). Many thanks to Ms. Berman for her dedicated work throughout the year and also in the preparation for this event. Thank you also to the PSO and 5th grade volunteers who kept it running so smoothly!

Spring BASE Program: Spring BASE courses are in full swing. Speaking of art, Mrs. Toppa shared the efforts of her BASE math artists. Math + Art = FUN!

There's No Recess Like Spring Recess: Hugo joined 3rd and 5th grade recess this week and was thrilled to play in the sun with his Deer Hill friends.

Each month Superintendent Shannon includes a suggestion for purposeful play and developmentally appropriate risk. Here is the May challenge!

Keeping up with our Anxious Generation purposeful play and responsible risk taking challenges, I am inviting you to join in on our May activities. This month, our challenges are:

Purposeful Play Challenge

Let's get creative this month! May is here and so are the flowers and planting season. Plant a garden together. Build the plan, head to the store together to pick out what you're going to plant, get messy in the dirt as you dig, and then watch as what you did together grows. Celebrate your success. Bonus points if you plant a new fruit or vegetable that your child tries as a new food once it's planted!

Responsible Risk Taking Challenge

This month let your child plan a solo adventure within safe boundaries according to their age. Let your child walk to a neighbor’s house, deliver a letter to the mailbox by themselves, ride their bike to somewhere of their choice, or stay home alone. Independence builds confidence!
