FMS Weekly Updates
October 23, 2026
The Principal's Paw Print
Greetings, Fugett Families!
As we close another week, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your continued trust, partnership, and support. We remain committed to listening, learning, and growing together to ensure every student thrives.
Academic Tip of the Week: Take a few minutes this weekend to review PowerSchool with your child. Celebrate their successes and ask, โWhat are you proud of this week, and where might you need support?โ These simple conversations help build student ownership and confidence.
Thank you for being an essential part of our Fugett community. We are grateful to be on this journey together!
Thank you for being part of our Pack!
One Pack. One Purpose. One Fugett.
Cheers to weekend ahead,
Principal Lewis
Student Leaders Making a Difference at Fugett!
Exciting things are happening at Fugett! Through our Equity Club, students will have the opportunity to serve as Student Safety Leaders, taking an active role in making our school a welcoming, safe, and connected community.
These students will be selected, trained, and supported to help promote positive hallway transitions, lunch and recess routines, and schoolwide expectations. They will also help welcome guests and guide visitors throughout our building.
This initiative reflects our commitment to Supportive School Culture, High-Impact Teaching & Learning, and Strong & Connected Community, while giving students meaningful opportunities to demonstrate leadership, responsibility, and our iCARE values.
We are proud to empower our students to be part of the positive change they want to see at Fugett!
One Pack. One Purpose. One Fugett.

Fugett Students & Staff Helping Shape the Future!
We are proud to celebrate our 8th-grade student representativesโSufyaan R., Edward G., Amanah G., Ella G., Jaliyah K., Roslyn M., Lucas C., William K., Alicia M., Henry W., and Rafael H.โalong with Assistant Principal Amy Terkanian and teachers Ryan Jewell, Kerry Montgomery, and Lauren Koepke, who represented Fugett at WCASDโs Portrait of a Graduate Day on Wednesday, October 21, at the Spellman Administrative Center!
Together, our students and staff shared valuable experiences, perspectives, and feedback with district leaders to help shape the future of teaching and learning and bring our WCASD Portrait of a Graduate competencies to life.

๐ IXL Mastery Challenge is Coming!
We are excited to announce our FMS IXL Mastery Challenge, running from October 5 through October 28! Students will have the opportunity to strengthen their Math and ELA skills while earning mastery on IXL recommendations.
This challenge is designed to support students' academic growth while recognizing their hard work and dedication. Students should focus on the recommended skills generated from the IXL Benchmark Assessments completed between September 22 and October 2. Families can view these recommendations by logging into their child's IXL, selecting Assessment, and reviewing their child's levels and recommended skills. Because students are working on skills tailored to their individual needs, the challenge focuses on mastery and growth, not grade level or academic level, allowing every class to compete on an equal playing field.
A skill is considered mastered when a student earns a 100 SmartScore. Every mastered skill counts toward the class total!
Students will be given time throughout the school day, including during class and homeroom, to work on their recommended skills. Families can support this challenge by encouraging students to practice at home, celebrating their progress, and helping them build strong learning habits.
The class with the most skills mastered by the end of the challenge will be recognized and celebrated!
๐ Challenge Dates: October 5 - October 28
๐ฏ Goal: Master as many recommended Math and ELA skills as possible by earning a 100 SmartScore
๐ Find Recommendations: Log into IXL โ Assessment โ View your child's levels and recommended skills
๐ Celebration: October 30 for the winning class
Thank you for partnering with us to make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun. Together, let's inspire our students to become confident, motivated learners and celebrate their growth! โจ

๐ Important Reminder: Student Attendance at Athletic Events
As we continue supporting our Cougars and WCASD athletics, we want to remind families of important expectations for students attending after school athletic events.
Per WCASD expectations, students must enter HS athletic events accompanied by a parent or responsible adult and remain under adult supervision throughout the event. Students should not be dropped off to attend games independently.
All students are expected to demonstrate positive sportsmanship, respect others, follow staff directions, and make responsible choices.
Please be reminded that violations of the WCASD Code of Conduct at school sponsored athletic events may result in disciplinary consequences, including suspension from school and/or being prohibited from attending future athletic events including our FMS Athletic Events. School Administration reserves the right to prohibit entry to games for students based on violations of the code of conduct during or after school.
If students are attending a game, they are expected to remain at the game and conduct themselves appropriately.
We appreciate our families partnering with us to reinforce these expectations and ensure our athletic events remain safe, positive, and enjoyable for everyone.
Together, we are building a Supportive School Culture that extends beyond the school day!

Fugett Middle School is celebrating Red Ribbon Week which runs from October 23 through October 30. The 2026 national Red Ribbon Week theme is "Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free.โ This week marks the occasion when schools across the country focus their attention on drug use and prevention among school-aged children. National Red Ribbon Week began in 1988 with a Congressional Proclamation. Red Ribbon Week is dedicated to Federal Drug Enforcement agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena who was killed by a drug trafficker in 1985. National Red Ribbon Week has become a symbol for a drug-free society. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated by over 100,000 schools and organizations nationwide.
Fugett will have special themes each day, so check out the Red Ribbon Daily Themes graphic for that information!
