Hello ELC families,

The month of May has arrived, bringing with it a sense of excitement and anticipation throughout the Early Learning Center. As we begin to wrap up another incredible school year, our classrooms are buzzing with energy and joy. There are so many special moments ahead—our Preschool Graduation, the always-popular field trip to the Splash Pad, the launch of Summer Camp, and other end-of-year celebrations that promise to create lasting memories for our students and families.

It’s truly hard to believe that the last day of school is just around the corner. While the countdown to summer has begun, our teachers and staff remain focused and dedicated to providing meaningful, engaging experiences each day. As we continue working diligently in our classrooms, we have a few important updates and reminders to share with you to ensure a smooth and successful end to the school year.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Next week starting on May 5th, we’re honoring the heart and soul of our preschool—our amazing teachers! Their patience, creativity, and dedication help shape a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, loved, and inspired to learn. From guiding little hands through first letters to offering hugs on tough days, our teachers give their all each and every day. While we deeply appreciate the generosity of our families, we kindly ask that you refrain from giving monetary or store-bought gifts. Instead, we encourage thoughtful, handmade tokens—like a drawing, a heartfelt note, or a small craft from your child. These meaningful gestures truly reflect the spirit of appreciation and are cherished far more than anything money can buy.

Classroom Supplies Reminder

As we move through the busy spring season, our classroom is in need of a few essentials to keep everything running smoothly. We kindly ask families to consider sending in extra snacks to help replenish our supply—healthy, nut-free options are always appreciated! Also, please take a moment to check your child’s cubby and make sure they have an adequate supply of pull-ups (if needed), wipes, and a full change of clothes, including socks. Having these items on hand helps us keep your little ones comfortable and ready for all the fun and learning each day brings. Thank you for your continued support!

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us! Please feel free to contact me with any questions,

-Catherine

We were thrilled to welcome a special guest to our campus—a professional mime artist! Both students and teachers participated in an engaging, interactive workshop where they explored the art of mime. Through a series of hands-on activities, they learned foundational techniques such as exaggerated facial expressions, body movement, and storytelling without words.

To conclude the week’s exciting activities, our students were delighted to have a face-to-face encounter with a certified therapy dog. This special visit provided a meaningful opportunity for students to learn about the important role therapy animals play in promoting emotional well-being and reducing stress. The gentle and friendly nature of the dog helped create a calming atmosphere, allowing students to engage, ask questions, and enjoy moments of comfort and connection.

In Ms Kallie's room...

This month, our classroom came alive with the sights, sounds, and textures of spring as students explored the life cycle of plants through hands-on, interdisciplinary activities. From learning the parts of a flower to planting their own in personalized pots, children gained a deeper understanding of how plants grow and what they need to thrive. Our young botanists also enjoyed collecting flowers from the school garden and preserving them using magnet tiles—a creative, sensory-rich project that encouraged fine motor skills and close observation. To cap off the unit, each student created a tactile "My Plant Book," showcasing the stages of plant growth with textured materials. This spring-themed exploration not only sparked scientific curiosity, but also supported literacy, language, and artistic expression.

Caterpillar Update

We are excited to share that our classroom caterpillars have successfully emerged from their chrysalises as beautiful butterflies! The children were thrilled to witness this incredible transformation and had a wonderful time gently interacting with the butterflies as they fluttered across their hands inside the nursery net. This experience provided a hands-on opportunity to explore the life cycle of butterflies in a memorable and engaging way.

Fresh Squeezed Lemonade

Our students also had the chance to engage in a fun and educational hands-on activity—making homemade lemonade for their classmates. Under close supervision, each student participated in the process by carefully cutting fresh lemons and using a manual juicer to extract the juice.

In Ms Brittany's room...

Over the past few weeks, our students have been fully immersed in a fun and educational unit all about farm life in the spring. We've explored various farm-related themes, including the roles of different farm animals, the seasonal changes on a farm, and the fascinating life cycle of a chicken. Through hands-on activities, books, and discussions, the children have been gaining a deeper understanding of where our food comes from and how animals and nature work together on the farm.

In addition to our farm unit, we’ve also focused on character development through a selection of age-appropriate books and engaging group activities. Topics such as kindness, making good choices, and the importance of sharing have sparked thoughtful conversations and helped the children practice these values in everyday classroom interactions.
