What will we be learning this week?
Reading
Hello families! This week, students will begin our Writing Bridge Unit, which helps us connect everything we’ve learned in Wit & Wisdom to the types of writing they’ll see on the Georgia Milestones (GMAS).
📚 About the Writing Bridge Unit
These lessons help students strengthen their opinion writing skills while learning how to plan, organize, and clearly explain their thinking using evidence from texts. Students will practice a step-by-step writing process that includes:
Explicit modeling and guided practice
Using student samples and self-assessment
Revising and improving writing
The goal is to help students feel confident and prepared for assessment-style writing while building strong habits that carry into all types of writing.
📖 This Week’s Focus
🧠 Vocabulary Assessment on Monday
🔍 Review key reading skills: identifying main idea and text features
✏️ Begin our Writing Bridge Unit—students will learn to write organized opinion essays using textual evidence
Math
Dear Families,
This week in math, our focus is on helping students build a strong foundation in multiplication and division through standard 3.PAR.3.2. This means your child is learning to:
✅ Represent single-digit multiplication and division facts using a variety of strategies
✅ Explain how multiplication and division are connected
We’re using hands-on tools, visual models, number lines, arrays, and fact families to help students see patterns and relationships. For example, if your child knows that 3 × 4 = 12, they can also understand that 12 ÷ 4 = 3. This helps them solve problems more flexibly and confidently.
💡 Try This at Home:
Ask your child to show you how they solve 6 × 2 or 12 ÷ 2 using drawings or objects.
Practice skip counting and grouping items during everyday activities (snacks, toys, chores).
Talk about how multiplication and division are “opposites” that help us check our work.
Thank you for supporting your child’s math journey. Together, we’re building lifelong problem-solvers!
Science/Social Studies
This week in Social Studies students will continue to learn about the Georgia regions!(Coastal Plains, Appalachian Plateau, Piedmont, Valley & Ridge, Blue Ridge)

Reading Specialist
Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.
3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amanda Montgomery
EIP
Reminder: Your student has made multiplication flash cards in class. Please encourage them to study the cards that come home to support strategy modeling in class.
IRR
I am an interrelated special education teacher; I will co-teach in Mrs. Baker and Ms. Castillo’s classrooms this school year. This is my second year teaching, and I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade again at Park Street! If your child is in Mrs. Baker or Ms. Castillo’s homeroom and has an IEP, I will be their case manager this year. I will be your contact person regarding your child’s IEP needs. Please know that I am here to support your child and communicate with necessary staff information for the implementation of your child’s IEP. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
