Principal's Message/Mesaje De Director
Hola familias,
Atentamente,
Dra. Melvin

Hello Families, Happy Friday and I hope you all are doing well and have had a good week. It was great to be back at school this week and welcome everyone back after Spring Break. I had a relaxing break as I was able to travel to San Francisco and visit my parents and help my mom who was going through a major surgery (everything went well thank goodness!). Tobias, Lilah and I visited Alcatraz and also went to Opening Day of the Oakland A’s baseball team (and the A’s won in the last inning!). It was great hearing all of the stories from students about their various adventures over the break. We had a good week back at school and it's hard to believe we are in the final stretch of this school year. Students definitely seem ready for spring and are bursting with energy. As you know, there is no school next Monday as teachers will be preparing third quarter report cards (and these will be sent home on Monday, April 17). As we are in April we are looking ahead to the beginning of the time of state assessments and end of year assessments. All students will be taking their Spring I-Ready Math assessments next week and our 5th grade students will begin their Science Assessments later this month. With these spring assessments we are hopeful that students can show the progress they have made and also help us understand areas where they still need support. We are also looking forward to our Spring Expo/Showcase at the end of this month on Thursday, April 27 from 5:30-7:30pm. This will be an opportunity for families to visit our classrooms and for students to show what they have been learning this year. Finally, I also want to acknowledge that April is National Bilingual and Multilingual Learners Month and I want to celebrate all of our students, staff and families who are bilingual and multilingual. We have close to 150 students in our Spanish-English Dual Immersion Program and over 15 different languages spoken by students and families at James John. We will be celebrating our Bilingual and Multilingual students throughout this month. For more information on this national recognition, please visit: NCELA That is the update I have for now and I hope you all have a great weekend. Sincerely, Dr. Melvin
