Building Success Through Attendance & Partnership
Dear MES Families,
Every day matters! Regular school attendance is one of the most important ways we can work together to support your child’s success. When students are at school consistently, they have more opportunities to learn, build relationships, participate in classroom activities, and experience the routines and connections that help them feel successful.
We understand that families sometimes face challenges that can make getting to school difficult. Our goal is not simply to track attendance—it is to partner with families and help remove barriers whenever we can.
How We Can Work Together
Families can help support strong attendance by:
- Making school attendance a priority whenever your child is healthy and able to attend.
- Establishing consistent morning and bedtime routines.
- Planning ahead for transportation needs or other challenges that may affect getting to school.
- Communicating with the school when your child will be absent or when your family is experiencing circumstances that may impact attendance.
- Helping your child understand the importance of being at school and arriving on time.
- Reaching out to us when you need support. You do not have to navigate attendance challenges alone!
How Our Family Liaison Can Help
Our Family Liaison is here to support students and families when barriers to regular attendance arise. Depending on the situation, our Family Liaison may be able to help connect families with community resources, assist with problem-solving, support transportation or other needs, and work alongside families to develop a plan for improving attendance.
If attendance has become a challenge for your family, please reach out. We want to work with you, not wait until a problem becomes bigger. Together, we can build the consistency and support students need to be successful.
Friendly Safety Reminders
School Doors Open at 7:30 AM
Just a friendly reminder that our school doors do not open until 7:30 AM. If students arrive before 7:30 AM, there is no adult supervision available, so please make arrangements for your child to arrive at or after 7:30 AM.
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!
Walking Home & Crossing the Highway
If your child walks home or to another location after school and needs to cross the highway, please talk with your child about using a safe crossing option.
There are a couple of options:
- Use the crosswalk at the intersection of Center Street and 10th Street.
- Use the school bus option: We have a bus that can pick students up at the elementary school and drop them off at the high school, allowing students to get to the other side of town without crossing the highway.
If you have questions about these options or need help making arrangements for your child, please call the elementary office. We are happy to work with families to help find a safe plan for students who walk home or are traveling to another location after school.
Our priority is making sure every child gets home safely.
Looking Ahead to a Great Week!
We have a lot planned this week—lots of learning, fun, and collaboration! We are excited to see our students continue growing, learning, and building connections with their classmates and teachers.
Thank you for partnering with us each day. When families and schools work together, we create the strongest path for student success!
Have a wonderful week!

26-27 MARYSVILLE ELEMENTARY STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK
26-27 MES Parent Handbook
Our Parent Handbook is an important resource that outlines the expectations, policies, and procedures for the school year. It includes information about academics, attendance, behavior expectations, communication, and ways families can stay engaged in their child’s learning.
We ask that families review the handbook prior to the first day of school so that everyone is familiar with our school guidelines. Please continue to reference it throughout the year whenever questions arise. Working together, we can ensure a safe, supportive, and successful school experience for every child.

New Kansas Cell Phone Law & Two Way Communication
House Bill 2299 (2026) – Kansas law requires every public school district to prohibit personal electronic devices that can make calls, send texts, or access the internet from being worn or carried by K‑12 students during the instructional day. The infographic below shows how this impacts students at Marysville Elementary School.

🧠 Playing to Learn, Learning to Play 🧸
Learning in Action: The Power of Play!
In preschool, play isn't just a fun break from learning—it is how learning happens. When your little ones build tall towers with blocks, dress up in dramatic play, or piece together puzzles, they are engaging in critical cognitive and social development. Research shows that play fosters essential skills like problem-solving, spatial awareness, language development, and emotional regulation. Through self-directed play, children practice sharing, negotiation, and resilience when things don't go according to plan. Take a look at these snapshots of our everyday moments: every laughter-filled interaction represents a brain making new connections and laying the groundwork for future academic success!

CharacterStrong – Week 1: Respect
This month, we are talking about R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Respect means seeing the good in people and things & treating them with care. Seeing good in others can mean that you look for things you like or appreciate in people - whether they are similar or different from you. Treating others with care can mean listening quietly when others are speaking and responding with Kindness. It can also mean helping out when you see a need or standing up for others. Think about how you can show Respect today!
