You are making a difference!

Welcome to the Coweta Professional Learning Newsletter! Thank you for the tireless energy and commitment that you are pouring into each of your students on a daily basis. When the days are hard and you are so tired, know that you are making a difference for a student - and maybe a family or a coworker. Keep plugging on - our world needs you right now.

Educational Research - What is most effective? Educational Research - What is most effective?

John Hattie's research reminds us that there are specific high leverage practices that have a greater impact on student learning than other practices that might be occur throughout schools. The general focus of Hattie's research is a concentration on student LEARNING. The focus also includes identifying influences that are likely to accelerate learning so that all students gain at least a year of learning for a year of time spent in school. As educators, we must be careful that we don't create a list of teacher to-do strategies and focus on the TEACHING aspect and lose sight of the overall purpose - STUDENT LEARNING.

These high impact strategies are not short-term tasks but rather a culture of analyzing student learning and then discussing what is impacting the learning. This approach is so relevant for us right now. Students are working at many different levels - and are having to deal with so many challenges this year. What worked last week with one student may not work today. What clicked for me as an adult trying to learn new information last week may not work for me tomorrow!

As an educator, you have the power to make an incredible impact on your students - just by believing in them and expecting them to succeed. Unfortunately, we can also make a negative impact by not expecting enough of our students. In all that we do to help students to learn and to expect them to learn at high levels (even if it is different than how we learned), if we will approach the process and most importantly the young minds assigned to us with grace and care and love, our kiddos will have meet our expectations.

Thank you for your commitment to our students and for empowering them for school and life.

If a student needs to leave the room unexpectedly while taking a test, you can stop a test by selecting Stop Test in the upper-right corner of the screen. A prompt will ask if you want to resume the test later, stop the test, or cancel the action.
