From the Health Office
November is finally upon us, though the cold weather has been with us for a while now. We want to ensure that all of the children at MRE remain safe and healthy this holiday season. One way to remain healthy is to wear appropriate clothing to and from school.
Please ensure that your child has the following clothing when coming to school daily:
· Hat
· Gloves
· Several layers of clothing
· Winter coat
· Boots and snow pants as needed
We use the Child Care Weather Watch to determine when children can safely go outside for recess. More often than not, your child will be outside at recess daily so it is imperative that proper cold weather clothing is worn. If the mornings are rushed, please make sure to plan ahead of time the night before so that all the winter gear is ready to go in the morning.
Another thing that cold weather brings is dry chapped lips! To help prevent dry, chapped lips in your child:
Drink plenty of water
Monitor for repetitive licking of lips
Apply lip balm or unscented ointments to lips as needed throughout the day
Send your child to school with their own lip balm to use as needed

Extra Note from Mrs. Frommer
Label all items
Take a moment to label all jackets, boots, hats, cloves, snow pants, etc. If it is labelled, the item can be returned to the classroom of the student easily.
Our lost and found has been packed full this year. Luckily we have a parent volunteer who has been helping to organize it and clean it up. Recently it was cleaned out and we are starting fresh again.
Unexpected Early Release Planning
Letter from the Safety Committee
Dear Families,
We are writing to ask you to create a backup dismissal plan in case school needs to close early with little notice.
Why might this happen?
Early closures can occur due to weather, facility issues (loss of water or heat), or other unexpected situations. While we try to provide advance notice when possible, some situations require us to dismiss quickly.
What you need to know:
You will be notified through our usual communication system (email, phone call, and text)
Dismissal will follow regular procedures—buses will run their normal routes at an earlier time, and car pickup and walkers will follow the same process
Students will be dismissed to go home as they normally would, just earlier in the day
What families should do:
Elementary families: Create a backup plan for who will receive your child if you cannot be home. This might include a neighbor, relative, or another trusted adult. Make sure your child knows this plan.
Middle school families: Discuss the plan with your child—where they should go, how they will get inside, or if they should go to an alternate location.
Please take time to make a plan and review it with your child.
Thank you for helping us keep all students safe.
NRSD Snow Day Protocol Reminder
As we approach another winter, we want to provide you with the snow day protocol we use to notify students, staff, and families in the event that school is delayed or canceled due to inclement weather.
Please click the link below to know what to expect for Snow Day Cancellations.
Parent Conference Survey
We value your feedback and would appreciate it if you could take a few moments to let us know about your experience during the recent parent/caregiver-teacher conference. Improving upon communication of student progress is one of the key priorities of our NRSD Strategic Plan. Your responses will help us not only understand what is working for our families, but also provide us with areas where we can improve. Please complete one survey for each child where it is applicable.

Lunch & Recess Considerations for Early Pickups
Early Dismissals & Scheduling Reminder
If you need to dismiss your child early, please keep in mind that lunch and recess times may affect how smoothly we are able to bring your student to the office. Planning pick-ups outside of those times whenever possible helps ensure a smoother transition.
Below is a list of lunch times to help with planning and not that recess generally follows lunch:
Kindergarten: 11:30 - 11:55
Grade 1: 11:15 - 11:45
Grade 2: 11:45 - 12:15
Grade 3: 12:00 - 12:25
Grade 4: 12:15 - 12:40
Grade 5: 12:30 - 12:55
