News From the Principal
Hello,
Only 2 weeks of school before winter break! Please help us keep up attendance for the next few weeks and moving forward. Attendance matters for both your child and our school! Our school alone has lost over $90,000 THIS YEAR from absences. Please know that as long as your child shows up for school, at any time of the day, for any length of time, they benefit from time in school and we are able to collect ADA (average daily attendance) dollars. If they have an appointment, please bring them to school for the portion of the day they are available! Additionally, if you know your child will be absent for 5 or more days you may contact Ms. Angela in the front office for a Contract. The teacher will then provide your child with school work and once it is returned, the absence will be marked "Excused" for your child and the school will be able to recoup the missed funding. ALL other absences (other than those with contracts) regardless of being "excused" or not, do not qualify for any ADA funding. Thank you for your help in this important matter!
Help us make Winter Wonderland magical!
Our Student Lighthouse Team is collecting holiday decorations, string lights, inflatables, and other festive items. If you're upgrading your lights this year, please consider donating your gently used ones to help us brighten the celebration! Thank you for your continued support and school spirit!
In Partnership,
Sally Viavada
Principal

Parents on Campus Policy:
We are so grateful for your continued partnership and support—it truly makes our school community stronger. As we begin the new school year, we want to share our Parents on Campus Policy, which is designed to help keep all students safe and our campus running smoothly.
The following will be enforced beginning the first week of school:
- Once the school day begins (start bell rings at 7:35), all parents dropping off students should promptly exit campus. Only parents with a pre-scheduled volunteer time or appointment will be permitted on campus. If you would like to volunteer in your child’s class please make arrangement with your child’s teacher in advance! Teachers will be submitting volunteer schedules to the front office so we know who to expect each day.
- If your child is late for school and needs assistance getting to class, a staff member will be happy to walk them in. (Parents on campus after the tardy bell rings is not permitted)
- All volunteers must be cleared through the appropriate school channels (including background checks and district requirements). Anyone not properly cleared will not be allowed on campus.
- These expectations apply to all grade levels and are meant to ensure the safety and structure of our school environment.
The policy will be included in our Volunteer Packet, which outlines how to become an approved volunteer and sign up for classroom or school activities. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment for all students!

Cell Phone/Smart watch policy:
Any Cell Phones or Smart Watches (or other communication devices) must be powered off and zipped up in a backpack during school hours.
If your child needs to contact you, they may ask a teacher or someone in the front office to contact you for them but may not use their personal device between 7:35-2:00.
If you need to contact your child or get a message to them please call the front office at 619-605-2500.
The school will not investigate any lost, damaged or stolen communication devices.
District policy regarding Phone-free school day policy details, frequently asked questions and resources for families are available at www.sandiegounified.org/PhoneFreePolicy
Student Computers
All incoming 3rd-5th grade students should have their devices at home with them over the summer (even exiting 5th graders) as devices now follow the student (to whatever district school they attend).
Incoming K-2nd grade students will receive their computers once school starts (this process may take several weeks so please be patient)
The Instructional Technology Department created the following resources for parents (links below)
Please view this information on laptop care and digital citizenship with your children
If your child is NOT returning to a school in our district please return their computers and chargers to the front office.
