Where Little Panther Cubs Begin BIG Journeys
From the Principal
🍎🐾 Week Nine` Highlights at Luce Road
Dear Luce Road Families,
This is how we Take Chances, Make Mistakes and Get Messy!
Our little Panther Cubs are learning to ROAR with pride as they discover how “we do school.”
Nine weeks into the school year, our Cubs continue to grow in confidence, independence, and kindness. Whether they’re trying something new, sharing their thinking, or helping a friend, each day brings opportunities to learn and grow together. 📚💙
🧠 Learning at Luce Road
At Luce Road, we want every child to understand what they’re learning, why it matters, and what success looks like.
“I Can” Statements: Teachers share learning goals in language children understand, such as “I can name the sounds I hear in a word.” These goals help students recognize and celebrate their progress.
Small Group Time: Students receive focused instruction in reading and math, with support and practice matched to their learning needs.
Deep Thinking: Through Bookworms reading and Bridges math, teachers ask purposeful questions that encourage students to explain their ideas and share how they reached an answer.
🖐️ Safe Hands & Responsibility
Throughout October, we’re practicing Responsibility while continuing to reinforce Safe Hands. Our hands are for helping, sharing, playing, and caring. We’re teaching our Cubs to use words to solve problems and ask an adult for help when needed.
Being responsible means understanding that our choices affect ourselves and others. We practice by:
Caring for toys, books, and classroom materials
Cleaning up after ourselves
Following directions and routines
Using kind words and safe hands
Trying our best and asking for help
Families can practice responsibility at home through simple jobs, such as putting away toys or helping set the table. Name the positive choice: “You took care of your things. That was responsible!”
🌟 Responsibility Challenge
At the end of the month, each class will nominate a student who has shown outstanding responsibility. We look forward to celebrating the everyday choices that help our classrooms learn and grow together!
🧥 Cooler Weather Reminder
Cooler days are here! Please send your child with a jacket or coat appropriate for outdoor play, and label it with their name. Practicing zipping and putting on jackets at home also helps our Cubs build independence and get ready for recess with confidence.

Transportation Changes
Please make sure you are calling the school by 2:00 p.m. to make changes to your students transportation routine, whether its a new person picking them up, switching between the CarLine and the Walk up Line, After Care and Bus. Please communicate directly with the school main office about changes to your Childs transportation home. Staff will NOT change a transportation plan on the direction of a student.
Dressing for the Weather
Please help your child dress for the weather. Our Panther Cubs have outdoor recess 3 to 4 times a day. Mornings can be chilly, so send a jacket or hoodie and closed-toe shoes. Students are expected to go outside each time. Please label all items with your child’s name. Thank you for keeping our Cubs comfy and ready to play!
Checking Your Student Backpack!
Please check your students backpacks for their folders. Important notes and information will come home via those folders. Today a note came home for some students from the main office about missing Enrollment Paperwork.
Labeling Student Belongings
Parents and guardians, please label your Panther Cub’s belongings, including backpack, coat, lunch box, and water bottle. Our Lost and Found is filling up, and labeled items can be returned quickly. Thank you for your help!
Clothing
Please make sure you send a change of clothes in for your student. Sometimes accidents happen and it’s helpful for them to have a change of clothes.
Please make sure ALL of your student’s belongings are labeled with their name! If it gets lost, staff will know who to return it to!
Event Information
Tucker the Turtle is a social-emotional learning strategy and scripted story designed to help young children (ages 2–5) calm down and manage strong emotions like anger, frustration, or disappointment. Students are learning how to do this at school. We are asking for you to partner with us and reinforcing this at home!
