Estimadas familias de James John,

Espero que estas dos primeras semanas de clases y el Año Nuevo hayan sido geniales para ti y tu familia. Definitivamente estamos avanzando. Los niños participan en el trabajo escolar y actualmente estamos en un ciclo de seis semanas de nuevo aprendizaje. Nuestros equipos de nivel de grado han estado calibrando su trabajo proporcionando conexiones académicas significativas y duraderas para el aprendizaje de los estudiantes.

Me alegró ver a muchas familias en las conferencias esta semana, conversando con los maestros, celebrando y compartiendo toda la grandeza que experimentamos cada día. A menudo hablamos de cómo los estudiantes tienen un yo en la escuela y un yo en el hogar y es maravilloso ver a ambas partes unirse durante las conferencias: proporciona una imagen completa de nuestros estudiantes.

Dear James John Families,

I hope these first two weeks of school and the New Year have been great for you and your family. We are definitely moving along. Kiddos are engaged in school work and we are currently in a six week cycle of new learning. Our grade level teams have been calibrating their work providing meaningful and long lasting academic connections for student learning.

I was glad to see many families at conferences this week - engaging in conversation with teachers, celebrating and sharing all the greatness we get to experience each day. We often talk about how students have a school-self and a home-self and it is awesome to see both sides come together during conferences - it provides a full picture of our students.

Join us next week on Wednesday for our monthly Walk and Roll to School. We will be meeting at the St. John’s Community Center at 7:30 am and then walking and rolling over to school at 7:45. We look forward to seeing you.

Our staff has also begun work to define our James John School core values. In order to ensure we get to hear and present as many voices in determining our wider community values, our School Climate Specialist - Teacher Kim, will be presenting a core value activity to begin the process during this week's PTA meeting (Thursday).

The weather has definitely changed, it is very cold and wet. We are running low again on changes of clothes for students. We would love for students to start bringing a change of clothes in their backpacks for days they may need one.

El clima definitivamente ha cambiado, hace mucho frío y humedad. Nuevamente nos estamos quedando sin cambios de ropa para los estudiantes. Nos encantaría que los estudiantes comenzaran a traer un cambio de ropa en sus mochilas para los días en que lo necesiten.

Please join us next Thursday 1/18 at 6:00pm for our first PTA meeting of 2024! We'll hear from Ms. Kim our school's Climate Specialist about the core values for James John and hope to get your input on adding new ones. We'll have pizza for dinner and childcare available. We hope to see you there.

Thank you to everyone who brought items for our sock and underwear drive. Our closet could also use some boys pants (preferably sweatpants/ pull on pants) in sizes 6-16 if you have any in good condition lying around we would love to add them to our closet.

Families who have Oregon Health Plan (OHP) or other Medicaid benefits need to respond to notices from OHA. Families who don’t qualify for OHP and don’t get health insurance through their employer need to sign up for an individual or family plan by Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024.
