Before spring break, the First-Grade class learned to draw an Alligator! They follow the art teacher's demonstration on the white board, and they copied it step by step. Learning how to draw through demonstration is a classical method of learning art skills. In the past, an art student would actually go to the artist's studio and learn in person through many demonstrations and the occasional lecture. At Hozho Academy Grades K-2 primarily spend their time in art class learning through demonstration. It develops their hand-eye coordination which is fundamental to any visual art form. Furthermore, the kids love learning how to draw new things and it bolsters their confidence in their ability to draw and try hard things.
